factory heater core $400!

My gosh man. I was shocked when I looked up this part. I need a heater core for my '93 RX7 and no parts store online has it listed so I checked the dealer. I couldn't believe it was listed at $407. Incredible.

Anyone buy one cheaper (new only)?

Did you call Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda? He gives discounts to all of the forum members. Give him a call at 888-533-3400 and see what he can do.

I'll call Ray (again) tomorrow. I'm sure it will still be over $300 though. I'm used to $50-90 for a heater core, hence the shock.

You can't compare the OEM cat as you can get any old cat and weld in there. With the heater core, you have to have exact fit.

Has ANYONE got a replacement heater core from their local parts store and not a dealer? If so what was the store name? I don't care if I have to order it, just trying to save a little money.

Ah but an ABS pump is a complex item. The heater core is a tiny radiator that costs almost as much as a Fluidyne radiator. Highway robbery I'll tell you.

This is rare sports car with expensive OEM parts.....I suggest getting over it. If you don't want to pay for a new one, I'm sure you can find a used one in the classifieds from a parted out car. Fritz Flynn has a large collection of parts....

yep there are definitely some parts that should never be bought new/OEM. Main cat, stock cat-back, air pump, turbo control actuator, exhaust manifold, any of the heat shields, UIM, LIM, throttle body, intercooler, just to name a few. Price them out sometime if you're ever bored.

It sure does suck though when it's something really important like a wiring harness or lower control arms.

ring up someone in japan who can get one for you. i got mine for 16,000 yen few years ago. that was $160 US bucks.

as for buying a used core...... remove the busted core from your car and get back me about whether you'd want to do it again.
