A/f Question when cars turned off.

My wideband seems to work fine and show my a/f with no problem, it is accurate under WOT and cruising.

Issue:

when you turn your car off, is the gauge suppose to go lean right away and just show the --- for max lean since no fuel is present? or is it because of the gas fumes stuck inside the exhaust it stays at the current number or around it??

The location is at the beginning of the midpipe. My brother swears that its not suppose to do that and the sensors going bad( since we both got the same AEM uego) and his goes straight lean when he turns it off in his car (not and rx7).

iirc, when you turn the key back to first click and not completely off, it should start to tick up towards lean as soon as the car stops running, and then ---- for no reading.

edit: i have the same wideband

Should be lean almost immediately. I've seen quite a few AEM sensors go bad. You can search on youtube on how to test them with brake cleaner (its that common)

from my experience with the AEM UEGO on Rx-7's and other cars it will quickly read leaner and leaner and then go "---" . on other wideband systems you will see similar behavior. It take a few seconds at most.

so i got around to doing the test, and it seems fine, this was the 2nd test, i didnt record the first. but the first it went from --- to 10.0 in about 6-7 seconds, but after the it seemed to be quicker. as you can see in the vid it was pretty fast. (recommend watching in HD to see clearly.

but it still does the same, i tested it out by putting it all back together, started it, let it idle for 15 seconds, then turned it off. It seemed to stay around the number it was at, and didnt look like it was going to lean out to --- any time soon.

again my sensor is like 3-4 inches from after the midpipe, not on the dp, if that matters

my techedge usually takes a bit of time to start reading much leaner than the exhaust gases in the exhaust reading after just shutting the car off. usually stays in the 14's for a few minutes while the exhaust clears.

been tuning with this wideband for years and years and a few more years.

don't spend too much time pulling your hair out and take what other people say with a grain of salt..

oh, and AEM's are junk, just sayin'.

cheaper wideband sensors cool off too rapidly which is why the reading goes dead so quickly, this is not a good example of an actual good quality wideband if the reading goes lean quickly because there is still unburnt fuel in the exhaust, unless you're running a fan through it.

I don't think its normal to blink --- when its showing a full 10 on a wrapped sensor with brake fluid.
