I bought my 95 FD at a Honda dealer (I know, I know) and purchased the Honda extended warranty. So far, they have covered everything (already paid for the warranty in less than 2 months ) with no hassles.

However, I think 94 is the cut-off for most companies.

i just bought a 93 rx7 from some guy. when he purcharsed the car(ford dealership, dont ask) he got an extended warranty. he has paid for the warranty twice over already. the engine went, and the tranny was grinding. all fixed thanks to a little warranty. nice to have sometimes. it makes you want to purposely drive the car very aggressive because you know it will be fixed no questions asked.

I purchased My FD a year ago, the warranty through National Warranty was a transfer of $50 bucks into my name. Needless to say, it just ran out...Oh did I mention they spent $10,700 on my motor and a second set of turbo's. So, I'm not sure they will be offering to cover anymore RX-7's in the future. All was legit too.. I am one lucky bastard!

My warranty was through the Chrysler Warranty Company. I bought my 93 at a Jeep/Eagle dealer. The poor sap that traded her in just got married and traded it in for a Cherokee

I NEVER had any issues with them, and they also replaced my engine and turbos, rebuilt the tranny, and replaced my steering rack and a few AC components.

So where do us poor saps that cant get them from the dealers do for the warantees? And do most of these cover a car with mods, or do you just take the mods off when you take it in for warantee work?

I haven't had any experience with them, but you may like to try them

As far as the mods go, the general rule is if the actual mod did NOT cause the damage, then it should be ok to leave it installed.

how do you prove it to them though, that the mods didnt cause it?
the only experience Ive had is subaru warantee repair, and if they saw so much as a k&n filter they wouldnt help you out, and blame it on modding yoru car.

Extended warranty companies are pretty tricky. I got screwed on mine. The car overheated because my AST broke (stupid me) to never even look under the hood for these things. They wouldn't cover me because of gasket and ring failures. But yet they said they would cover me for mechanical failures. What the hell. My previous turbo's were rebuilt thru them. But i had to save up and pay for a rebuild since they didn't want to cover my motor. I never heard of this stupid *** warranty before, i bought it like that. They didn't even explain to me what it actually covers. If you do buy one, read everything in the warranty, make sure it includes seals and gaskets and overheating do to failures.

Hey Gir,
K & N claims that there's this law that says if you use an aftermarket intake in your car, it shouldn't void any warranty. Go to their site and check it out.

You could try http://www.platinumwarrantycorp.com/
The use to cover FD's not sure if they still do though. They even use to have FD's all over their site. Its hard to find someone who will cover these cars, they are getting older, and I've seen a few people that have tried to screw the insurance companies out of thousands. I myself am not too big on the whole idea of warranty on most things.
I look at it this way, if you feel you really need one, you either bought a POS or you can't maintain your car.
Most warranty companies will only allow certain places that they chose to work on your car. Do you really want the Honda or Ford or Kia or Joe Blow working on your FD! God forbid you have one with the Mazda dealership, then you really are SOL.
Save yourself the cash and buy a FD in good shape, don't beat the **** out of it and maintain it correctly.
I do all most all the work myself anyway, because I don't feel that there are many people (atleast around here) to work on this kind of car. Around here, I have people who can't even mount a tire the right way. Are you going to trust your car with someone like that???
I have a friend who is big on the warranty and all that happy horse ****, infact he only like to buy brand new cars because they offer a warrany. I say if you need that peace of mind with a new car you are buying a POS, plus he's afraid to even change is own oil. Hey if you want to lose money on something like that (as soon as you drive it off the lot) and be at the mercy of factory trained idiots than be my guest.
I'll just save my money for more mods, beer, and nights out at the nudie bar.

Actually, most warranty companies do not require you to get it fixed at the dealer. (They have a different kind of policy for non-dealer make cars.) As you stated, these are old cars and things go wrong. I just had to replace my oil metering pump. The parts and labor to do this is around $2000 ($1200 just for the part). Parts like this can fail no matter how well the car is taken care of. I also just replaced all the rear suspension bushings as well under warranty. These are all parts that will wear out regardless. I have already more than paid for the warranty with just these two fixes.

As far as working on your own car goes, some of us just don't have that option. I for one am able to do basic things like oil changes and such but I tend to have bad luck whenever I try to do real repair work.

try
www.warrantydirect.com

i bought my car with one and the previous owner had tons of stuff covered -thats work done by kd rotary even. personally i had it cover a new fan motor ($200) -no problems. the mechanic calls in with his id number and an estimate. calls back when the job is done with the final price and they give him a credit card number to charge. very easy!
my only worry is it will not cover modded cars so i feel bad using it. only another year or so left though...

edit: i just checked em out and they only cover cars with less than 60k on the odometer. but for a 2 year/25k mile warranty with $0 deductible it is $1250...

Sorry, that site quoted me, but later looking through the actual coverage, they say no rotary engines! Sorry for the confusion.

Ok I have found one that still does cover the FD. Although as far as engines are concerned they only cover internally lubricated parts. I.e. if you overheat and warp your housing and ruin your o-rings, they will not cover it. They had several different plans. Check them out at www.autowarranties.com They'll give you a few different quotes. I'm debating on it. Good luck

If anyone knows of any company that will insure in Canada, and for a '93 I'd appreciate it.
Especially since my motor is dead... heh
j/k I think the hose job will fix that.

I bought my FD a month ago from a private seller. Luckily my dad is car dealer and I was able to buy an extended warranty from the company they use, I think it's SmartChoice or something. I'm not too confident about the whole thing yet, but we'll see what happens. My secondary turbo is blowing oil right now and my motor has 82k on it, bone stock... I am thinking about doing the "ATF Treatment" to see if I can speed up the process . I am a little nervous about modding with a warranty on this original motor/turbos...I want to see if I can get new stuff before I put money into performance...

Thanks for all the info. I'll try my luck and go with autowarrantybroker.Com. I gotta wait 45 days and 1000 miles til I can use it. The best part is I have up to 30 days to cancel the policy... go figure. As soon as the time expires straight to Rotary Power to get a full check up!

Make sure your warranty covers Rings and Gaskets.

My warranty attributes all my car failures to rings and gaskets. Once they hear leak, they say we do not cover gaskets.

Make sure you worded your problem right, so not to mention ring/gaskets. Let your mechanics know what your warranty limitation too, so that he can describe the problem so it will be covered.

I have so much problem with warranty, when they hear leak.

Alrite..Good Luck.

I just talked to the guy and he said they dont "just" cover leaks. There has to be an actual problem for them to cover it. I know FDs are notorious for leaks.

so is there one that will cover the motors at all. i dont like the whole fact that you pay for something and not get to use it. sounds like my insurance company. when my car was broken into they decided not to pay me for some damage cause they felt the damage could not have been done by thieves!!!!
