Experts please help, strange trans- E shaft problem
Here's the deal,
I had the trans pulled to change the clutch and swap in a 9.5 flywheel. Before the new parts the car wouldn't go into any gear while running and if you tried to start it, it would lurch forward(or reverse)depending on what gear it was in when you started it. As it turns out the clutch was in perfect shape. The problem was the trans input shaft was touching the E shaft and causing the trans to turn if in gear despite the clutch being disengaged. After consulting a couple of rx 7 people it was decided to grind a bit off the input shaft and put back together with the new clutch and flywheel. It lasted all of 45 miles. Any ideas what in the hell is going on here? No one I've spoken to has ever seen this problem before.
Thanks,
Andrew

did you replace the bearing and seal in the E- shaft . did you polish out the input shafts end that goes into the needle bearing or the pilot bearing did you grease the bearing

Why in the hell would you grind off any of the input shaft ... it inserts into the Eshaft and like the prior post mentioned there is a bearing and a seal. If you had a problem with the clutch not disengaging, then look at the clutch fork which has been known to crack, also look at the ring which attaches the p-plate to the to-brg.

Ditto on both. It's either the pilot bearing is frozen, and not allowing the input shaft to stop turning, or the pressure plate is not releasing because of bent/broken fork. If it's the fork, when pressing on clutch pedal, you should be able to notice a lack of resistance if the throwout brg is not moving the pressure plate arms.

Maybe I wasn't quite clear on my original post. The FAT part of the input shaft was touching the Eshaft and causing the trans to turn while the clutch was disengaged.
Thanks guys, I did notice some lack of resistance on the clutch pedal when I last depressed it. How much is a clutch fork?
