exhaust...tone it down?

wierd, i just posted this...and it seems to have disappeared. anyways...

i have a downpipe, gutted main cat, and 3" exhaust. my car is loud. at idle and just normal driving around town it is annoying. i want to put somethin in place of the gutted main cat that will quiet it down a little, without adding too much restriction. i was thinking about a glasspack, but i heard the glass packing will melt. what can i do to quiet my car a little, and perhaps give it a less raspy, cleaner sound at normal driving speeds. WOT it sounds awesome. thanks

Put a resonator on the mid. Any muffler shop should be able to do it for you. Or you can pick up a borla res and have the shop put that on as well. The latter is more expensive.

if that doesnt work, you can always try to put a new rear intake valve in and replace your steering wheel with a banana.

Get a magnaflow 3" inlet 3"outlet oval muffler and weld it in in place of the catalytic converter, your car will sound nice and smooth like a jet, but bearbly quiet.

I don't know either, BUT that MagnaFlow replacing the Main-Cat idea, is pretty freaging ingenious!! Hell, I might even try it!

Get a high flow cat. It will flow better than a gutted stock cat, weigh less, help keep the environmentalists happy, and be quieter.

A resonated midpipe won't quiet your car very much. If you want it just a hair quieter, that may work. A high flow cat would be quieter, and smell better too.

And (I know you're not in CA, but hey) you can pass smog with a hi-flow cat too. I just got my '95 smogged and I was a little worried about passing because I recently put on the bonez hi-flow, but it passed.

Get one of these MP's (http://vrsexhaust.com/html_tips/dpipes.htm) with the Magnaflow already welded in. I have one with a DP and RB Dual Tip running Non-sequential and it's pretty quiet unless you go WOT. The Borla XR-1 is another (better but more expensive) option. If you get an XR-1 you'll need to buy a MP too and have it welded in.

Does a Magnaflow muffler flow any better than a high-flow cat? By the time you get done welding in all this other crap to quiet down the car you could have the exact same power witha high flow plus you wouldnt stink as bad.

i doubt a highflow would quiet the car as much as another muffler. thats what im after, i need to clog my exhaust up a little anyways, since ill be adding an intake soon.

the louder the better! (unless cops get on your case) but guess its all personal prefs, but till you quiet it down go set off those car alarms!
