Exhaust overheat light questions

Two questions...

1. How is it possible that my exhaust overheat light is on at start up (cold)? I don't think that this is a clogged cat issue because the car pulls very strong.

2. Where exactly is the sensor (I have done a search and read that it is on the passenger floor but I can't see anything)?

Thanks for you help.

mcf, I can check my manual for you when I get home, but right now I do not have it. I seem to remember seeing the manual online somewhere. Maybe you could do a search along those lines and find it. Tom

Do you have a PFC? If so it lights the Exhaust Overheat light to let you know there is something wrong with one of your sensors, check sensor screen in the Etc. menu to see where the problem is.

If your still running the stock ECU and the light is on then it's probably a bad sensor. I beleive it's under the carpet under the passenger seat.

I am running the stock ecu (M2 stage 3). I am looking for the sensor and can't find it... If it isn't there would the light go on? (I have rebuit this car and only recently plugged the light in at the console).

the light comes on when starting... if it goes off after you start then everything is normal.

It would probably easier to find the sensor by first taking out the PS seat. Then move the carpet over, and you'll see it. If it's connected there, then go underneath the car and see that it's connected to the cat.

Thanks everyone... The light stays on after start... the passenger seat is out - so Ill lift the carpet and see if there's anything in there... my suspiscion is that it doesn't exist and is causing the light to go on - make sense?

Nope! Page F-189 of the FSM says the light should be on when the sensor is replaced by a short (jumper). So if the sensor weren't there (open circuit) the light should be out. If the sensor is there and is bad (shorted), that would make the light go on. Page F-189 has a picture of where the sensor is located.
