Is this an exhaust manifold leak?

Alright well here goes, I thought my dp had a leak cuz I just recently installed it, but I took off the heat shield below it and used the ATF trick through the UIM, and the exhaust is coming out of the manifold right below the dp. Is this the exhaust manifold? If it is I think it might have a bad gasket, do I need to pull the entire turbo section to get to it? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Greg Smith

It sounds as if its either between the turbo and exhaust manifold, or between the exhaust manifold and motor. Either way you'll need to yank out the turbos to replace the gaskets.

He probably just poured ATF into the intake so the exhaust would have smoke in it. Then he looked for the smoke coming out of the leak.

It sounds to me like a bad downpipe to exhaust manifold gasket, or you didn't torque the nuts down enough when you installed the downpipe.

I found in another thread that if you just suck a little ATF in the nipple on the UIM it will create a lot of white smoke so you can trace the exhaust. Actually the exhaust was coming from the exhaust to turbo manifold, so I replaced the gaskets only to find the previous owner used a hardware bolt (that sheared off, Doh!) in the little 8mm studs place. So I also replaced and no more leak, but now that I put everything back together the downpipe to turbo manifold is leaking, looks like I might need another gasket. I HATE EXHAUST LEAKS!
