exhaust help please

Well, I got my borla xr1 just a few days ago. I've run all around town trying to find a place that will take my stock cat out, and run the 3" pipeing w/ the xr1, but no place will do it.

Is there a way for me to do it my self?
Any ideas will be welcome.

Thanks

Tell them you need a custom midpipe made for racing. Have them make it for you and just bolt it on yourself later. There are big fines for shops if they are caught removing emissions equipment so thats prolly why they don't want to do it.

So will most shops make it, as long as I put it on my self?

I just finished installing a 3' ATR exhaust on my R1 yesterday and if you have the full system it's really easy to do it your self. The whole system is completely bolt-on no welding whatsoever just remember when replacing the exhaust to lift the car while maintaining the weight on the wheels to make sure suspension is loaded. (I just backed mine onto ramps) If you need the mid-pipe I recommend an ATR 3' I picked mine up for 179.00 mandrel bent. atr.com also Bonez makes one that will also work but it's more expensive. rx7.com

Well, pretty much what I'm looking for is a midpipe but not too loud. A handful of peepz on the forum have doen waht I'm trying to do whcih is esstailly get a midpipe except have a Brola xr1 muffler welded into it. the xr1 flows prett much as well as a midpipe. So I get the power w/o the ear bleeding.

The thing is no one makes a bolt-on xr1 midpipe.

The borla xr1 are universal race mufflers desinged to be welded in. Any muffler shop should be able to make you the 3" piping to go on either side of the borla to connect to the downpipe and catback. A straight midpipe will be loud and raspy. I run a M2 downpipe with an SR resonated midpipe, and a Greddy SP catback. Its not exactly quiet, but not too bad either.

its a unversal muffler. Costs about 130 then another 50 for exhaust work and bam, I have soemthing that flows as good as a MP, but gives a better sound.

Apex GT is a catback. I alread have a catback, I just need to replace the stock cat.

ACK! I've alled around and no plce will do that either. They all told me their hands are tied unless it has no tags and I trailor it up there.

So I have an XR1 sitting in my room thats useless unless I figure out a way to put it on, any ideas people?

You can weld it on yourself if you are any good at that sort of thing. I am planning on doing the same thing after getting my clutch and flywheel installed. Having money troubles right now so I got to wait, my hi flow cat works pretty good so far. Do you know if we will still be able to shoot flames with the xr1 welded in?

would anyone happen to have a used MP to sell? Mild steel or SS is cool with me.

I''d rather not spend the money on a new one if I'm just gonna get an xr1 welded into it anyway.

Hmm there are a ton of places that will do it in my town. I just told them I wanted a race pipe for the track, and they made me a MP 3 inch for less than $50 USD and welded the Borla XR-1 Sportsman in for about $25 USD. Good luck with your search, try one of the local shops that the muscle car guys go to.

You could unbolt your cat and tell that it fell out, and that you need to fill up the gap with a 3 inch pipe.
