Exhaust Flapper Hole

Hey, quick question, has anyone ever heard of plugging the hole left from removing the rod for the flapper when going NS with a 1/4" NPT plug? It seems like a very simple solution instead of getting it welded closed.

I am sure you could do it, but the welding is always the quick and easy way.

If you have a welder.

I think tapping for NPT would work pretty well, but I would be concerned that if the threads weren't cut really well that they would leak or put too much stress in the manifold.

If they preheat it and use a very high nickel alloy weld wire it should be no problem.

Maybe a turbodiesel (truck) shop would be most willing to help.

When removing the turbo control gate from the exhaust manifold, taping and screwing in a cast iron plug has been the most common way of doing it since around 1998.

Yes you can weld it. Which ever is cheapest for you.
