Exhaust fitted but too high, needs to be lowered...

Ok so here's the deal: I just recently got a new cat-back exhaust and I just went to install it yesterday. I used the stock rubber hangers and the exhaust fits really nicely but it's way too high in the back and touching the bumper. I know a lot of people melt their bumper or use the CF cover from Rotary Extreme to protect the bumper. I thought I would ask this question before I run this exhaust since my bumper's not melted yet and would like to fix this problem before it "becomes" a problem. So anyways the main question I have is how can you lower the hangers? Do exhaust shops make longer rubber hangers than what's stock? Do you have any recommendations? Thanks -Joe

What catback did you get, we might be able to help out a bit more if we knew.

Yes you can purchase aftermarket rubber "hangers." Not sure if your local muffler shop would have any, but they will probably have some off of other makes/models that could be longer. Try google.com, and you'll find some aftermarket ones.

As far as it hitting the rear bumper, do you have an aftermarket dp/midpipe? I used the rx7store.net downpipe without the mid pipe, and the tip of my exhaust hit my rear bumper.

It's a HKS dragger replica I guess you could call it - it's straight through 3". The hooks on the exhaust are pretty much straight 90 degrees off the exhaust (except the middle hook which goes up a bit)...yes I know this doesn't help that much lol

As for midpipe, etc. I'm running a SS downpipe (again I don't know brand) but it fits quite well...this is mated to a stock cat. So maybe I have a similar problem where I'm not using the midpipe and it's pushing stuff back because the cat is longer maybe? I'll check to see if I can find some aftermarket hangers that'll extend the height a bit lower.

Ding ding ding!! We got a winner! Thats probably your problem. I experianced the same issues when not installing the mid pipe that came with my downpipe. If your running an HKS dp, or similar brand, then it's just your exhaust. Either way, you have fitment issues with one or the other, and your best bet is to get new hangers.

I'd get a good downpipe - ill-fitting exhaust will cause you lots of problems. If it's too close to the bumper, it will melt the bumper, plain and simple.

ok I've been doing some reading on the board and I noticed a detail about the rubber hangers that I hadn't seen before. What is the spot in the middle of it for? Is it for a spacer? People talk on the board about lowering the hangers with spacers...can someone fill me in on what exactly you use to do this? What is the spacer made of and how is it used? Thanks a lot -Joe
