excuse me for being mr.dumass

i was in the parking lot with my friend ( me in my 3RD GEN FD)and to keep things short i busted a donut and before i could shift into 2nd my car felt like .... almost like when your secondary turbo doesn't boost! so i was like WHOA and kept driving out and tried to shift into 2nd, but it grinded like crazy! and when i tried to put it any other gear on top like 1st 3rd and 5th the car starts dying but doesn't stall! and when i try to put it in the the other gears and reverse it just grinds! so, what do u think happened or what's wrong? my did says it's my clutch, but i think it's the tranny! =/ ANYONE HAVE N/E IDEA?

THANKS

It could be your clutch, if it doesn't disengage correctly the gears will grind, kinda like putting the car into gear without using the clutch. On the other hand it could be your tranny, they have a pretty average gearbox in these cars. They have problems of getting stuck in gear, breaking housings, stretching bolts etc.

we were just driving one time and pulled it out of first to go to neutral for a stop and tried to put it back into gear and woulnd't go back in first. then we tried to put it in any other gear and it would go in the bottom gears but 1,3,5, it would not go in. we tried to get home using 2 and 4 and after a while a little 240 drove up next to me trying to race me and i couldn't let a 240 think they beat me so i floored it in second and out of reflex went to put it into third and it just slid right in and it was good for about half an hour and then went out again so then took it to the shop and had to replace the clutch and then it ran just fine

It's *now* but pretty much what I'm thinking as well... I had a similar situation as well and although I had the transmission rebuilt at the same time I think it was really the pilot bearing being chewed to smitherines that was causing most of my problems.

I would start with...

*Checking transmission fluid

then..

*Remove the transmission and check out your clutch/pilot bearing/etc..

then if it's still not working or if either of the first two weren't the cause....

*Get your transmission to someone(perhaps a rotary tuner who also knows transmissions) to take a look inside it..

ok im gonna say this cause this sounds oooh to familiar, well if u cant get it into any gears then yeah it could be the clutch but when it happend to me, like i dunno i was all confuzed like wtf, then it jus worked again it was really weird soooo i dunno what to tell ya, u can look at ur clutch without droppin the tranny so do that first, then if its ok jus click ur heels 3 times and say theres no place like home

It's most likely not your tranny. For some reason, your transmission is not disengaging from your engine. This could be caused by: clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder, pilot bearing, or clutch fork. Does your clutch pedal feel the same now? Check your brake/clutch fluid first, then check for leaks at the slave cylinder.

These are the exact same symptoms I had when I didn't bleed my clutch completely.

Try this test. First, try putting it in gear with the engine not running. Then do the same thing with the engine running and the clutch depressed. If it works ok with the engine off but not with the engine running then it is most likely your clutch.
