Exact number of 95's

What is the exact number of 95's ever produced for the U.S.? I heard it was 500, but I'm not sure. Can anyone confirm?

I've heard reports of ~3000 left REGISTERED. There could be more on the road than that, although I don't think much more. Personally, that seems too low, but everyone was surprised when it circulated around the big list. The official production numbers did come from Mazda btw.

I have a brilliant black R2 from 95 and it took me too long to find it....but I guess one outta 18 isn't bad.
