1994 PEG, original owner (bought 9/94). Bonez DP, Viton vacuum hoses, all else stock. 96K miles on original engine, no indications yet of basic engine problem. Have replaced FPD, and injector & FPR O-rings due to fuel smell. Also have recently had oil pan, front & rear shaft seals, oil pressure sensor o-ring replaced, due to oil leaks.

Purchased a 94 with 101K miles w/ original motor and turbos last spring. Only mods were DP, CB and AST. Compression was in the high 6's. In February 2010, I removed the motor with 106K miles - still started and ran fine.

I wonder if the OEM dual oil coolers are extending the life of the motor and turbos in a lot of cases. I had a friend who was the second owner of his car and got his original motor and turbos up to 110k before it blue. It just had a catback and replacement of a few failure-prone things.

1993 VR Touring
102,000kms(63,000miles)
No warranty work ever performed, all recalls done,
BNR turbos installed at 90,000kms,original turbos still good and on shelf.
Koyo rad,AST deleted,Apexi Power FC,RB cat back,HKS downpipe,Denso fuel pump home made(adam c type) cold air intake( (all at 90,000kms),
Castrol GTX20W50,dual oil coolers coming this winter.

Just as a matter of interest,I spoke with the owner of my 1988 TII,sold 5yrs ago, which still has the original motor running strong at 208,000kms(130,000miles),although original turbo is leaking oil.I made 2(yes two)transcontinental trips in this car.

I would like to reiterate what montego said here. It's the truth, I'm on my 3rd also. My first rx7 was still on it's first motor tho when I sold it at 84k. 93 VR touring, 99spec twins, downpipe, greddy intake.

64K miles on engine and chassis, never had a serious problem. Runs beautifully. Modifications shown in signature. I have done many PM's such as all new coolant hoses, Viton vacuum hoses, new pillow *****, new OE radiator, etc.

Damn never saw this thread. I had 108,000 original till I blew it back in Nov 2006 from over boosting in cold weather. There was still enough compression on the front rotor to crank the engine up and drive it 10miles back to my shop. With the exception of the short apex seals, the internals were prestine and zero flaking of the rotor housings. If the engine had been originally built with 2 piece apex seals, I feel 200,000 could easily be accomplished with these engines but not with the 3 piece because the top piece of the apex seals is getting too thin over 100k. So be carefull guys!

Mods:

Cheap air box mod!
Down pipe!

That's it!

93 Base VR. Second owner, car just passed 109k miles with the original engine and turbos. Car still pulls 15" vacuum at idle and boosts a perfect 10-8-10 pattern. Only performance mods are a DP, Racing Beat intake with a K&N filter, and a ball-spring MBC. I installed silicon vacuum hoses, sent the FIs out for servicing, installed a new aluminum radiator, and replaced all the coolant hoses at around 104k miles. Only issue I have with the car is the AC which I hope to fix this summer.

93 with 42,200 on the original motor. I'm the 3rd owner, 2nd was an older airline pilot who had it since 1995. According to his receipts and records he changed the oil every 900-1000 miles w/GTX. He said he drove it like it was meant to be driven and was educated on RX-7 ownership. Bone stock other than fan switch mod when I got it in Oct of 09. I've put on an AST, new radiator hoses, HKS DP, AEM water injection and a drop in K&N. 20 mm/hg vac at idle. 10-8-10 boost but I'm about to do a silicone hose job and replace the check valves with Dales. I started using some Imdemitsu in the fuel.
