Still have the FD and after I rebuilt the engine with different seals. 10 years good so far

sorry for any broken links or missing photos......it was quite a long time ago but I had almost an identical setup as you.

 

Seems like you never really got to the bottom of the cause? After rebuilding, how has the engine held up?
