engine smoke in turbo area

SUMMARY: Started an FD after several years of storage. it smokes a lot, and has smoke coming from the turbo/ Y pipe area

LONG VERSION:
we have been reviving a poorly stored FD we bought.

the engine turns on, and it finally stayed on of its own accord today (awesome!! ^_^) but it bellows ENORMOUS amounts of smoke from the tailpipe... I imagine this is normal considering it hasnt been running in several years

however, the smoke from the engine bay shouldnt be. the smoke looks to be coming fron the twin turbo area.

i want to know some possibilities of what is wrong here. if the turbos are bad, how would i know? furthermore, what other possible causes can i look in to? guys, i want to hear anything and everything you have to offer.

TIA

The smoke from the y-pipe area is probably an exhaust leak. If you have smoke pouring out of the engine through the tailpipe; then most likely it's finding other ways out of the exhaust track as well. Probably around the exhaust manifold and downpipe connection areas.

Did you lubricate the internal engine parts before you started the car (since it sounds like it's been sitting for a long time)?

If someone was working on the turbos then it's Liquid Wrench burning off the nuts and studs.
The Liquid Wrench smoke would look like this video.
If you drive it and hear a loud noise when you accelerate, then it's an exhaust leak.

not at all...

it had an oil change, new spark plugs installed and then we just fired it up. turned on without any real problems, just MASSIVE amounts of smoke from the tailpipe. could carbon build up in the turbos like in the rotor housings?

the smoke in the engine bay looks just like the video by millennm. though i doubt there is any liquid wrench on any of the bolts.

would the mop leaking be another possibility? there seemed to be a little bit of oil in the bottom end of the hoses. i did wipe it off though, if that matters.

Did you degrease the engine at all? It could be oil burning off on the turbos. Seriously, there are many possibilities but you are going to have to start narrowing them down. My suggestion:

1. Clean the engine if you haven't. Use a quality degreaser and go to town.
2. Get under the car and make sure everything is clean. Start the car and check for oil leaks as well as check for where exactly you see the smoke coming from.

If the engine has sat for a long time, I would probably use something like MMO in the chambers to loosen everything up. Then after a week or so, use the water to clean out the engine internals:

After all that, check compression.
