Engine Rebuild...

I had a couple questions. There is a good chance I might buy a 93 red touring for a very nice price; However, it has a blown engine. I don't live very far from Pineapple racing and I was told that they do some of the best work. I tried giving them a call today but one phone line was disconnected and nobody was picking up the other.

I have a few questions for people who have received a rebuilt engine from Pineapple racing.

93-95 RX-7 base rebuild $2495 w/ 5yr/60k warranty
large streeport $375 + up.
minimum of $2870.

Now I'm guessing this is for parts and not labor. If I'm wrong please correct me. Now I'm trying to save as much money as possible. I have a fairly large shop with adequate tools, but no sense of engine rebuilding. So..my question is....how would a video via rotaryaviation.com hold out? It's a 108 video on removing and replacing a FD engine. Also, can anyone give me a ballpark price on the streetport they had done at Pineapple racing? Nocab? Let me know...Thanks ~Cody

typical...no response from rob golden.

new reman is $1950 plus shipping.

his pricing is about right for a ported motor.

if you haven't done a swap before with a rotory expect to spend 40 hours on it.

most shops charge 20 hours of labor to do a swap.

Pineapple Racing is known as one of the top rotary shops in the USA, so if you get from them you know you are getting a top quality engine.

If you've done any type of engine work before on cars, removal and such, then I say go ahead and do the swap yourself. You can get step-by-step guides such as the Haynes Manual which will guide you right through it.

The prices mentioned seem to be about right for a rebuilt FD engine from a good shop.

try emailing rob. he has always responded to me in the past. rob's a really cool guy. if you can do the work i suggest that. it is not hard at all to pull a motor out. . . and while its out you can do things like change/add ground cables. . . yadda, yadda. maybe you can take the whole engine and accessories up to rob and let him tear it apart. . . rebuild it. . . reinstall the accessories. then all you have to do is drop it back in. you should look into some tranny work as well. if youve never driven it then you can be assured that the 5th gear synchro (at least!!) is bad and should be replaced. that is only like a 125.00 job if you have somebody else do it.

anyways. . . have fun!!!

Those looking for Pineapple motors on the east coast, I will be carrying them in stock at the rx7store. It will be the stage 3 setup that has a large street port and oil modifications. I can ship it out and would need to get yours back as a core exchange.
