That sure sounds like TPS adjustment...

Rx72Heaven 05-15-08 11:06 PM

could you elaborate on that?

BTW thanks for all the support recently. i did do a sensor check on the PFC, and a few things showed up. A/C FPD etc, id have to go out and write them down, but there were maybe 5 highlighted circles.

Goodfella's post that Mahjik linked in #98 actually talks about TPS adjustment. The voltages & the open/closed comments are sure hints that he's not talking about the CAS.

Rx72Heaven 05-16-08 11:41 AM

ok, it seems like he is. But ill check that stuff, ill check what things come on in the sensor check on the PFC and get back to you guys!

Rx72Heaven 05-16-08 12:16 PM

Checked them, the engine wasnt warmed up though, cause well it wont start now lol. and
VTA1 was .65
VTA2 was 1.65

Could this be potentially bad fuel aswell? this fuel has been sitting in my tank for over 4 months. with no additives.

Could be bad fuel, but not from sitting just 4 months. Did you have your injectors cleaned during this project?

Rx72Heaven 05-16-08 01:21 PM

no i didnt. My engine builder was saying its possible that the injectors are stuck open and making the car drown itself. I de-flooded the engine, lots of gas smelling smoke came out of the plug holes, and put the plugs back in, and took this video:

Mahjik 05-16-08 01:29 PM

Anything is possible. You could try putting 12v to the injectors and see if they click. While it's not a "exact" way to know if your injectors are performing properly, it will at least let you know if they are stuck or not.

Rx72Heaven 05-16-08 01:58 PM

yea i can try that, did you look at the video... looks like it wants to start...

Yep, it looks like it wants to crank over. However, it's hard to tell if it's a fuel problem or an ignition problem. I had a similar problem and it was because of my injectors. I had them cleaned, but they sat for months before I tried to start the car. This caused them to stick. Also, I fouled the plugs very quickly trying to start the car with this problem.

FWIW, I generally run some fuel injection cleaner on the first two tanks after an engine swap. Just to help keep things a little cleaned out.

DaleClark 05-16-08 02:17 PM

Make sure the fuel lines aren't crossed up. If you have the feed and return lines swapped, it'll do all kinds of weird stuff.

Dale

Rx72Heaven 05-16-08 02:32 PM

Fuel lines should be ok, cause it was starting before. Just idled Rough, and if i revved it up, it wouldn't go over 2000 RMP and it would just backfire and stumble.

Rx72Heaven 05-16-08 05:53 PM

So im pretty sure its a stuck injector. damn, should have just got new ones or flow and cleaned the stock ones! pfft!

Smitter 05-17-08 12:21 PM

Maybe we should just burn that jdm pos down and get u a proper fd with the steering wheel on the left side of the car. I would like to direct you attention to the 3rd generation Cars For Sale section of the forum. hahahahahaha

haha sounds like we're having possibly the same problem. just installed my new motor from gotham racing.. Only difference is mine idles and revs just fine while parked in the garage, but once under load it runs like poop, wont rev wont do anything. Im going to be going over my injectors, coils, spark plugs, ect tonight to hopefully find the problem.

Candy3s 05-20-08 02:52 PM

I had my coil pack connectors switched up, just thought i would let you know incase you havn't found your problem yet. check your coil pack connectors and fuel injector connectors, they are all interchangeable so they may have gotten switched around.

You should check fuel pressure.

Rx72Heaven 05-20-08 09:25 PM

you mean your Coil harness was connected wrong?

He (or she) is referring to the three plugs that connect to each stock coil. People have been know to put the wrong connector on the wrong coil from time to time. That is something to verify as well.

:icon_tup:
and yes, i had the three connectors switched around. caused the car to act exactly as you're describing.

djseven 05-21-08 10:28 AM

Replace injectors with freshly cleaned ones, replace that ancient looking FPD or delete it before your car burns to the ground and then let us know how the car acts. Sounds like you have a stuck injector to me.

Rx72Heaven 05-29-08 07:27 PM

so.... i replaced the 2nd darey injectors, same shit.

So i brought then car to the shop, he has put Primary's in, and it seemed to HELP. There was a grounding issue, he fixed that. So they have solved the spark issue.

Yesterday night they tried starting it, it wouldn't start. This morning they tried starting it, it did(didnt touch it since they tried yesterday). When they rev it up to 3000 RPM it spits and pops, and dosent seem to want to go over the 3000 RPM range. They shut it off, it wont start. it wants to, it starts to... then stalls.

SO.

1) New Primary's
2) New Secondaries
3) New Engine
4) New Coil Harness
5) PFC nothing is highlighted
6) All grounds checked, and clips on the harness checked
7) Swapped out stock ECU, and a Different PFC ECU
8) Fuel Pressure is Fine

WTF next!? AHH im getting so annoyed, i don't understand this. The harness was fine before the rebuild. Now thats almost what it looks like we will have to change. Just to freaking rule it out as a possibility as to why this is happening.

So any comments, hints, tips, or anything will help me! So don't hesitate!

-Mark

Did you use brand new fuel rail insulators. This will cause horrible vacuum and idle issues.

I installed a freshly cleaned injector on a customers car last week that I put a new engine in. All new injectors, car smoked at idle but drove fine. Actually drove really smooth when driving but just loaded up with fuel at idle. Checked everything before I realized it was a leaking injector even though they were just cleaned and flow tested. Swapped it out and the smoke dissapeared after a few seconds.

Dont get frustrated, just stay calm and use logic to figure out what is going on.

Rx72Heaven 05-30-08 09:45 AM

Thanks for the level headed response. Its hard for me to keep that way right now. Spend all this money on the car (14k for a JDM) hoping its going to be a good one, blow it 4 months later. And get the engine rebuilt, (i R&Red it with some helf from some friends)

Engine is in, and it will start sometimes, not some times, when it does it floods. We changed all the injectors.

We did have to solder in a new White CAS plug cause the one on my harness was broken. Today at the shop they are going to hook it up to a datalogit, to see if they can find anything, then they are going to test the CAS plugs. Hopefully ill have more answers today.
