Engine Pull and install!

Hey guys, just thought id show some progress on my Car at the moment. Just was outside with Syritis on the forums, and we've almost have the engine ready to be pulled out. This is my first run at this, so thank god someone with the knowledge that Syritis has came along to help me out!

Im going to Pull it get it rebuilt, with a nice street port, and thinking of steel braided lines, and im going to put a new clutch and light flywheel on it aswell. Thinking in Feb to get it rebuilt, and get it on the road in time for spring! CANT WAIT!

We ran into a little hitch with removing the tranny from the block. Is there susposed to be a screw you loosen to unhook it from the block, like the transmission fork. I could be asking this totally wrong, so if i am Syritis chime in lol.

Heres some pics of the progress! :icon_tup: :icon_tup: :icon_tup:

This might be the issue with the transmission. http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...58290919&hl=en

ProjectD 01-20-08 02:59 AM

IMHO it'smuch easier to R&R the motor with the tranny attached.

Mahjik 01-20-08 08:14 AM

Rx72Heaven,

There was a thread just a few days about this same issue:

https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/clutch-release-confusion-722308/

There are a few good post in there (as well as the same video link as posted above). Good luck!

Smitter 01-20-08 10:35 AM

^^ yeah dumbass....

Rx72Heaven 01-20-08 10:42 AM

haha, yea. I didn't see it. Thanks for all the help though guys! The only reason i don't want to pull the tranny is cause i don't need it out. But we were contemplating maybe taking it out when we install it again, because i guess itd be easier to install both the tranny and the engine together.

Mahjik 01-20-08 10:52 AM

Well whether you separate it in the car, or outside of the car; the separate process is still the same. ;)

Rx72Heaven 01-20-08 12:20 PM

ye i know, just we may not "need" to do it so we'd be saving ourselves some work. But what ever is easier.

Rx72Heaven 01-21-08 02:15 PM

Hey guys, i want to get a fan controller, whats the best one out there? Also i wanting to get some steel braided hoses for the vac lines etc. Wheres the best place to grab some. I seen some on rx7store, but not exactly what im looking for.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

-Mark

Rx72Heaven 01-21-08 07:08 PM

any suggestions?

Zokus 01-21-08 08:06 PM

You want to use steel braided lines for the vac lines? Kind of pointless and redundant, not to mention expensive, don't you think? What about the abrasive qualities of SS hose against your fuel lines and wiring harness?

If you want the best, why not Viton hose?

Oh, and good luck with everything! My car is being refreshed over the winter as well.

http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...66_30_full.jpg

Rx72Heaven 01-21-08 08:34 PM

Nice, I didnt mean Vac hoses sorry. Just like oil lines, and break lines. Looks like your cars on it way too though!

i want to get brand new plugs and wires, and a HKS Twin Power Ignition, Any thing more recommended then the HKS? Plus and wires, are the Bosch the best?

Northern7 01-22-08 07:50 AM

most people run magnecore (spelling) wires. They seem to be highly recommended.

Syritis 01-22-08 03:13 PM

NGK plugs and wires are what i've heard to be the best by far. also not that expensive. I use them without any problems

Rx72Heaven 02-03-08 02:18 AM

And im painting all the plastics int he car aswell. Im using truck bedliner, it gives a nice look, and a nice feel. Its not rough at all, just feels well made, i love it.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1..._/IMG_0368.jpg

And heres a close up on the texture of the plastic.

So its all coming along, i Have a Profec Spec-II coming and some prosport gauges. Cant wait to start the install!

mikeric 03-09-08 01:42 PM

Only use NGK rotary plugs available from Mazda or any of the vendors on this forum. I don't know if Bosh makes rotary plugs. Whatever you do, do not put regular plugs in there.

Rx72Heaven 03-09-08 02:41 PM

Yea i have the NGK wires, thanks for the heads up though ;)

skir2222 03-09-08 05:33 PM

Awesome, I had the same exact intercooler, did you buy it off of someone on the forum? Looking forward to seeing more pictures of the build!

Rx72Heaven 03-09-08 06:12 PM

YEa i bought off a forum member. How did it run with your set up?

I ran a my stock twins and T04r on it worked great. Who did you get it off of? I think that is my old pettit IC, heres a picture of when it was on my car. The sticker is still there and is the same exact location!

Rx72Heaven 03-10-08 04:09 PM

Cool good to know this will be a good upgrade from the stocker. I guess anything is though! haha..

i got it off memphismarines for a good price.

well i hear it is "easier" to pull the engine with the tranny cause when u put it back in its a Biatch to line up the engine with the tranny while the tranny is in the car. So maybe in the end it would save you time.

That information is obviously by people who have no idea what they are doing. :wallbash:

I've probably R&R more FD engine than MOST the people on this forum and I can tell you, if you have any clue as to what you're doing it is way faster and easier to not pull the tranny.

No way, it's easy! Jack up the front of the trans, lower the motor into the transmission and it should slide right in, may take some jiggling, then have it held into the trans while someone puts the bolts in through the transmission into the motor.

Update

Hey guys, i finally got the engine to the builder about 1 week ago, and it was transported using my beautiful 1st gen 1982 rx7. i was a little ekepticle at first if it would fit, but sure enough, it sure did! When i got it to the shop, there was a bit of a hassle to get it out, we had to take off the rear window hatch, and lay it on the roof, and pick it that way. But other then that, it was quite the fun drive, with the FD engine in the back of the 1st gen. :D

And yes i have pics ;)-- Also got my prosprt gauges, Boost, EGT and Fuel Press. I have Water and just bought a AEM UGEO wideband off a forum member just recently, so those should be trailing in here soon.

Getting so close, im just getting nervous of putting everything back together again, all those vac lines:wallbash: . But i printed out that huge vac line diagram, so with some patients, hopefully wont be too bad. Iam estimating 1 week when i recive the engine back the car should be runing good as new. :Wconfused i hope. haha

And yes heres the pics ;)

Open up the boxes and take pictures of the gauges. I am contemplating about purchasing these gauges, I want to see pics of the gauges out of the box :) please.

crcleofdst 03-21-08 08:08 PM

Is that a fender twin I spy in the background?

apexFD 03-21-08 08:58 PM

What catback do you have?

Also, what paint are you using for those plastics?

=Ben

Rx72Heaven 03-21-08 09:40 PM

Well im using Truck bedliner spray i got from Canadian tire, it works great, Just make sure you hold th can about 10-12 inches from the plastic, and do fast streaking sprays. If you don't do fast streaking sprays, you will get big lumps of the truck bed liner on the plastic( i found out the hard way, then i needed to sand truck bedliner off my plastic :() so learn from my mistakes. Its called "Dupli-Color Truck Bed Coating" Should be able to grab it at any auto parts store i would imagine.

And i have a HKS super dragger 3 inch cat back, sounds alright, i want to change it, it came on the car when i bought it.

And yes that is a Fender Ultimate Chorus Twin Amp, she pounds i tell ya! You play guitar crcleofdst?

Just hold on a bit ill post pics of the Gauges out of the box. There very high quality, and come with everything incl. the sensor, and a visor and mounting Brackets. I love em. Give me 1 hour and ill have em up skir2222.

Yea I would like to purchase some prosport gauges, what did they run you if you don't mind me asking? I have a egyptian mau, shes a neat little kitty, fat tummy.

Rx72Heaven 03-22-08 06:10 PM

if i remember correctly it was about 280 Shipped to my door. i Did the group buy and got 15% off though!

But still all 3 gauges are worth one defi gauge. And these use the same tech as the defi.

Yes thats the reason why I like these gauges, reminds me of the defi gauges, and matches stock gauge cluster. They are affordable and they back up there product!
