engine pull help, pt 2

alright, when seperating the engine from bellhousing, i have the hoist and a floor jack for the tranny. ive taken off all the bellhousing bolts. the problem is the engine and bellhousing is seperating about an inch and a half all around. up to where i can see the teeth of the flywheel and part of the clutch... after this, it just dosent seem to want to come off...

in a thread a few days ago someone was having the same problem and he disconected the clutch from the flywheel threw the little door.... is this neceserry? i would think that the clutch would come with the engine and flywheel off the splined shaft in the tranny... any suggestions?

Unless you disengage the wedge collar, the tranny is still attached to the pressure plate.

You can either do like the other thread, or you can loosen the slave cylinder, push the throw-out bearing and wedge collar all the way into the pressure plate. While you have it all pushed in, use a screw driver to keep the wedge collar against the pressure plate and pull the throw-out bearing back to separate it from the wedge collar. That will disconnect the tranny.

Yep, pretty much what Mahjik said. YOu must unbolt the clutch from the flywheel (easy, no brainer) or disconnect the wedge collar (difficult if you've never done it).
Hopefully you didn't pry too much, or you may be replacing some clutch plate parts too.

LOL, grin...

Do you have the "inspection plate" on your trans? Did you notice the note on it. "Caution, pull type clutch"

Like everyone else said, this isn't a problem, you've just got to learn how to disengage the wedge collar.

If you can't figure it out then just go ahead and remove the PP bolts through the bottom most hole, after that you'll see how to disconnect the wedge collar. I had to do it that way the first two times I tried. Don't feel bad.

yeah i could never do it that way both when i was pulling my motor and a year ago when iwas puttin in a new clutch, so i took the door off the inspection place and turned the flywheel with a screwdriver and did bolt by bolt with a torque wrench, i used an impact wrench last time, i was indeed quicker

Its easier if you use a pry bar to actually pry against the clutch fork to move it and then use a long screw driver to hold the wedge collar in place then just slowly let of the pry bar and the wedge collare will seperate from the clutch.

This might help with the clutch a bit, if you haven't already figured it out:
