Engine Oil Overfill...Help!

I recently got an oil changed two days ago, however, it wasn't until the car stared to idle a little arkward did I check the dip stick to see if it was filled correctly. From the looks of the dip stick, the engine was filled with one quart too much, possibility more. Well now when I start my car, it would idle around 700 to 800 rpm while fluctuating up and down, and after a few mintutes it'll stablized. Same goes with the oil pressure. In addition a little bit of smoke is coming out of the exhaust.

I've have since then drain the oil and filled up to where it needs to be. However, the symptoms i mention above still persist. It's not as bad however, the time it takes for the idleing to stablize is much shorter and now more smoke is coming out of the exhaust.

What are the consequences of over filling the engine with oil?

What should I do now that I have drain the oil and filled it to where it needs to be?

I hope this makes sense to you guys. Any input would greatly be appreciated.

You may want to pull off the intake tubes and clean them out. If it was that overfilled the oil probably came thru the PCV system and back thru the intake trac. The residue oil will hang around until it is wiped off or burned off. I would change your spark plugs or at least check them. They may be fouled out do to the excess oil.

You'll be fine. It's most likely excess oil in the intake tracts, as BIS pointed out already.

Remember that the car uses air passages in the TB in order to actually idle. Various amounts of oil can still be in solenoid valves, particularly the ISC solenoid, degrading their performance until the oil goes away.

I know a very reputable member of this forum (you know who you are) who over filled his engine by a quart on every oil change for over a year.

You will be fine.

I overfilled and tore my front cover gasket up.....if you're not leaking anywhere, just go for a hard drive with the proper oil levels and burn it out of the intake.

thanks for the input.

I'm probably going to change the spark plugs sometime this week.

I drove it a bit today in hope to burn off the excess oil residue left in the engine, but then i heard some ticking sound as I ran the engine a little over 3000rpm. Any ideas on what it could be now?

As far as driving the car and burning the excess oil, how long should I anticipate on dealing with this matter before it all gets back to normal?

Longer than it would if you were to spend an hour or so and pull off the IC pipes and the IC itself and cleaned them. Thatway all you have to worry about burning off is the residue inside the UIM.

Ticking from what area of the car? Engine? Any rpm above 3k?

Hmm..the ticking sound is coming from the engine, i imagine it probably has to do something with the valves? The car has no problem running over 3000 rpm.

Any thoughts on why i'm getting notoriously bad gas mileage? I'd pump just about eight gallons of gas yesterday and have seen driven only 25 miles and it appears as though the engine had consumed three gallons worth of fuel.

One other note; the check engine light went on, and i had it checked out today. It had to do something with the mass air flow senor. What does this mean? Can this somehow be related to my initial problem of having the engine overfilled with oil?

Should I be worried now? Or is this just the process of alleviating the excess oil in the engine.

The rotary engine has NO valves. I would disconnect the battery, push on the brake for 10 seconds (Restest the computer) reconnect the battery and see if that fixes your problem.

The ticking sound is the fuel injector solenoids. Totally normal.

Yep, I'm with clayne...injector solenoids. Also, you don't have valves or a MAF sensor, FYI.
