Engine idles, won't rev up.

I just put a replacement engine in my FD. At first the compression was low and it would not start. but I figured that the engine has just been sitting too long. I lubricated the seals and now the car starts and idles fine. The only problem is, it won't rev up. My friend suggest it is either a MAF problem or fuel delivery. Has anyone got any suggestions on what to look for first? =P

Check to make sure all vacuum lines are hooked up and going to the right places. What mods do you have on the engine? Stock twins? Single?

If it starts and idles okay but wont rev it could also be an ignition problem too. What does it do exactly?

I would start with making sure you have the CAS connectors on properly. It's fairly easy to mess them up and it can cause issues like you describe. If those are in the right positions, I would think start checking your ignition system.

Doesn't rev at all? Up to a certain rpm? All you did was replace the motor? What mods if any do you have? No maf in our cars but you can check the map too. Make sure you hooked everything back up. Tps, map, in particular. I'd think that if your cas clips were reversed that it wouldn't even idle but I never tried so...

Nope, it will start and idle. However, it will rev horribly and just about die around 3000 rpms.

Deffinatley check your basics like the guys above have suggested, im assuming you didnt label and mark all connections and hoses so you wouldnt hook something up the wrong way? did you swap over the igntion leads that were from the other engine or use the ones that came with the engine? new sparkplugs? Have you re checked your compressions now the engine has been running?

I would start with re checking your compressions, as you stated they were low at the start what readings are you getting now?

I was having a similar issue with my car recently. check the TPS sensor. Make sure its plugged in all the way as well. give it a nice good shove. If that does not solve it, make sure you are getting the proper voltage out of it.

is your throttle cable hooked up? LoL... but in all seriousness, does it die when you try to rev or does it just stay at idle?
