Engine bay maintenence

I was just wondering what you guys do to keep your engine looking brand-spanking new? I was thinking of having my engine steam cleaned. Any cons to doing this? What about engine degreasers? I've heard several things about water and such getting into components. Are there any other alternatives? Any feedback would be appreciated.

I use simple green wiped down with a paper towel. If it's extremely dirty, you may have to steam clean it. Use some armor all to dress up the plastics and hoses.

Simple green works really well. Just make sure to rinse all of it off because it is can corrode stuff.

20 cans of carb cleaner gets the thick stuff off for all the wipe downs.

MgGuire's on the hoses makes old tired IC hoses look BRAND NEW!!! Makes the plastic shine like new too. VERY cool stuff.

Simple green and careful use of a hose to wash it off...

S+S chrome in Anahiem CA. rechromed rims for a friend. They did a nice job with a 5 day turnaround for less than $300.00. I think all they do is chrome or polish rims. Phone # 714-996-1251.

I take it to the car wash and blast the crap out of it...works fine....just avoid the intakes (if aftermarket) and try not to keep direct water pressure on anything electrical...took about 3-4 times to get it CLEAN but now it's just maintenance...that and just drive you car once a week

Nice! I drive mine every single day 50+ miles. Wipe down my bay every month or so, and just pressure washed it. I should take pics before I go single.

i use gunk. I get that on all the parts that are grimey and the rest gets hosed down. Works pretty good and then i go over everything with a paper towel and some armor all.

What do you guys think about a steam cleaning or engine degreaser that they have at self-car washes?

thet degreaser at the self-car wash is pretty much ****...I used it on my daily driver and it stained some aluminum in the engine bay ...kinda happy I didn't use it on the 7

Use engine cleaner on a fairly warm engine... let it bake w/ the hood down then wash. Its worked well for me.

Here's what works for me:
1)Wait for a sunny morning to come.
2)Disconnect battery
3)Spray down engine with engine degreaser
4)Wait 10-15 minutes (or until you notice gunk coming off)
5)Hose down engine (with water )
6)Let the sun evaporate the water from parts of the engine you can't see
7)Spray engine down with silicone spray (to protect rubber & plastic parts and to make engine bay look nice-n-shiny
8)smile
