Engine from 5-speed into Auto car?

I have an engine from a manual R1 I would like to put into a car that is an auto.
Is there any issues with this?

Car 1: totalled but engine is fine (manual)
Car 2: engine blown but car is fine (auto)

Will this work? What do I need?
Thanx!

Did the trans and driveshaft survive the accident from Car #1? If so, why not a manual swap?

The engine should work just fine, the blocks are the same, just transfer the flywheel and starter from the auto engine(blown) over to the manual engine(good) and you will be set.

Thanx for the info.
I already sold the tranny and the other parts that would be needed for a conversion.

No

Auto motor can be used in a 5spd.

5sp motor CAN NOT be used in a auto.

There is no where for the auto starter to go on a 5spd motor...

Is there a back plate that can be switched or something to make it into an auto, and therefore having a place for the started?
Thanks turbojeff, I know you have a lot of experience doing this kind of thing :-)

The rear housing is different on the auto motor, that is the only difference.

I've heard of people getting lucky swapping the rear housing without rebuilding the motor. I'd say it is risky.
