Emissions Test

I have a 1993 with intake and Greddy Power extreme cat back exhaust....I bought it this way, and I know the stock downpipe is still on it. I have an emissions test coming up in the next month and was just wondering what the chances of me actually passing are. Thanks for the help, and any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

*If* everything is working fine with the emissions components of the car, it should pass fine. However, there is more to emissions than just intakes and catbacks..

=/ stockthey're actually pretty slim. rx7's barely pass, but i think you'll be able to pass. if you had an aftermarket dp then you wouldn't pass for sure.

Keep in mind, emission testing is different per state. While a DP would fail visual in CA, *many* people have passed emissions testing with a DP and Hi-Flo cats to boot in CA.

Well, all I know is everytime my brother in law drives in his car behind me. He says everytime I accelerate he gets high from the fumes of my car. So, I don't know how I will do.

Dump the precatch purge tank. Gas collects there sometimes and will purge in the middle of the test.
Disconnect the two small solnoids to the left of the UIM.
(totally disables boost more or less)
And cap the lines temp.
Get the car nice and warm. Drive the **** out of it on the way to the emissions stations. Seriously. You want that cat toasty.

If you are nearly stock, you will be fine with that.
I passed super clean with that done to my car. I will scan and post my emissions test for show and tell when I get home.

The key to the tests for our cars is making 1000% sure they get no boost.

The UIM is lower intake manifold. It hooks to the ports on your motor. It is hooked to the Upper intkae Manifold and is right above the turbos.

I dont know where the pre catch is though.

Ummm... UIM is upper intake manifold.

Precatch: Look at the throttle body from the driver's side of the engine bay. Where the intake elbow (silver plastic tube running into the throttle body) attaches to the throttle body, on the underside, right where those two little nuts are that attach the elbow, you will find a black plastic tube with vacuum hoses running into each end. This is the precatch. Remove the lower nuts attaching the elbow, pull the vacuum lines, remove the precatch, and empty it. Put it all back together again.

WTF?

I passed with flying colors in ATL with CAI, DP, and CB.

I will try again with full non-seq...

Where are you in Illinois? Here is the short version, PM for details. I am in the lake county area. My car failed emmissions 3 times. Got it to pass with a PFS intake, 3"downpipe, and hi flow cat. I ran the tank down to the last 3rd and poured a gallon of denatured alcohol into the tank. Just make sure the car is fully warmed up. Passed no problem.

I ran a bottle of Redline Complete Fuel System Cleaner a tank before I did emmisions. Just had a dp on. I just passed in VA.

Is it ok to disconnect the solnoids while they try to boost the car?

Also on a healthy car what are the mods to pass the emission for sure (in TX mine eff 5/1)?

You can get Denatured alcohol at hardware stores or home depot, in the paint thinner section.
It drastically improves your hydrocarbons.
Do a search for my name and smog

Just passed PA inspection today. Used 1/2 gallon of denatured alcohol to 1/3rd full tank. I have a down pipe, M2 CB, and N-tech high flow cat. I might have passed without the alcohol, but the mechanic told me I passed "with plenty of room to spare." I think without the alcohol I would have either just passed, or failed.

Its nice to know someone who will pass your car even with no emmisions like mine. Getting mine inspected next week. Gone: Precat, Main Cat, Airpump, ACV, and EGR.
