Emissions And Hi flow Cat

I was wondering if anyone knew a way or something I could do to my car to pass emissions. It failed Bone Stock. And my friend just installed a high flow cat on his third gen and when he revs it up to 5 or 6 grand red hot embers fire out the tail pipe. Is this normal???

The red hot embers are most likely peices of the catalytic brick breaking away, which means his hi flow is crapping out already. What brand of high flow is it?? We need more information in order to point you in the right direction so you can pass. Did you fail Hc's?
