I've talked about this in other threads, but wanted to bring it to everyone's attention. Rubber chair caps, my friend . TOTALLY eliminated my "moo", cost a buck for a pack of them, out of the way and clean - it's a win-win solution.

Let me know what you guys think! I do have another writeup I'm working on right now too .

BTW, mine was a cap from the HELP! section at NAPA. I can't remember the size, but they only have 3 or 4 different ones so it's not hard to see which one would fit.

Good idea, I have been running the "SOS pad in a tube" silencer as posted by the almighty Damian. It works great, but I think your solution looks a bit cleaner.

hehe, seriously though, good find. Back in the day when I had my airpump, I used a muffler off my lawn mower. Worked just fine, and was good for conversation starters too. But I think your solution looks better, and is a few bucks cheaper. Good job!

What about the restriction that this causes in the air escaping from the "relief valve"? Will the back pressure cause a problem?

I have a "Cheap Bastard" modified airbox, so that hose is still hooked up. Do you have a suggestion for people that have a setup like mine?

Weird! I think it may be the material you use too. Like I said, I've been using mine for a few months now (and I daily drive my DD, actually drive it for work!) so it's seen plenty of miles with this setup. There's NO degradation of the rubber cap. It also could be the chair leg cap is a better grade of rubber, since it's designed to be slick so you can scoot the chair around and not leave a mark.

Adam - with the stock airbox, there's not a lot of reason to do this. You could get 2 of the caps - cap up the nipple on the airbox, then make the "anti-moo" cap. That would eliminate the one hose and clean things up a bit. The 7/8" caps work GREAT on all the small fittings on the stock airbox - that's what I originally bought the caps for, for blocking off the ports for the stock BOV on the airbox to test noise levels.

Also, I don't think backpressure will be that big of a problem. I copied the idea from the Japanese tuners - attached is a pic of the silencer Knightsports sells as an example. If anything, the reduction in flow just increases the time for the air to get out slightly.

It really does work great. I tried a lawn mower muffler once, but this is easy, quiet, clean and simple. You're hired.

Admittedly, the 3 minutes included changing a drill bit, so I'll let you slide for the dollah.

On the M2 intake, the end that the relief hose goes into, there is a plate with a small hole drilled into it. You are just restricting the flow. Its the same concept as the silencer for some mufflers. Which is just a smaller inner diameter tail pipe. Which restricts the exhaust flow and makes the exhaust tone less loud.

Very cheap. They come in brass, stainless, plastic, aluminum, etc... The even have decible levels. Works fine lasts long time.

search for muffler and you will get 3 categories to choose from. A smaller muffler will work fine.. i.e. 3/8. Just go to a hardware store and get an adapter fitting to match the hose diameter.

This isn't a good idea for the stock blowoff valves - you WANT max flow possible, or you could have compressor surge.

But, I've got a solution for that too . On the FC, there's an in-line muffler in the outlet hose for the ACV. They're a dime a dozen - I grab one off any FC in the junkyard. I'll have to get a pic up. Anyhow, you still get the blowoff sound, but it's WAY tamed down. The loud blowoff bugged me .

Keynote - many people have used the air mufflers, and they do work. But, you have an extra large, ungainly part in the engine bay, and you have to order it and probably spend more than a buck .
