Hi mate yes I couldn’t figure out how to test it so I took it to a auto electrician. That’s what he told me.
It’s a control box with a really, hard to test as not a conventional relay. He said old one has scorching marks so I was all positive with next one. But no luck
think I’ll have to book it in with him and leave the car. I’ll post some pics ASAP of inside of relay. When he sorts I’ll post everything he does.
So annoying. As car is there it’s looking great and love pop ups.
Check out this thread that contains the JDM Factory Service Manual (FSM) with Wiring Diagram Manual (WDM): RHD JDM FD Service Manuals
This covers the RHD models from 1991 - 2002. Granted, it is written in Japanese but it is an invaluable tool. It can still be used to check wiring in your headlight retractor system.
@b3delta, I found that exact page once but never again!
I dug around some more and found these pearls:
Pg 853 of the JDM manual is another schematic for the retractor system. Pg 884 is a troubleshooting matrix for the retractor system. The system can be tested on Pgs 885 thru 887; that special relay box can be tested too!
So, technology is amazing at times! After spotting familiar circuits, I pulled up Google Translator on my phone. Held it up to the screen then *POOF*! Instant translation. You guys should give it a go and watch it blow your mind!
Jamie, Have you any luck with your retractor system since our last discussion?
Yeah still no luck waiting to book in with auto electrician. Total pain in the ***! I’ve tested for negative but not sure how good I’ve been. I’ve changed relay hoping to god that was it but no joy.
the car is almost perfect with new coilovers new clutch engine rebuild ect. But I look a **** having to manually wind up the lights 😂😂😂
once in with electrical guy I’ll give all info across
thanks for latest update he might need that.👍
thanks
Jamie
Copy all. Don't forget to inspect the Body CPU (CPU#2) for any signs of damage.
Did you say that you can manually wind up the headlights? Could you explain that a bit further? It may sound like a simple process but help me understand what you see.
For example, I had a problem with the retractors on my Vert. They would always stay up. The moment I tried to manually drive them down, they would drive back up. It almost caught my hand in the process too! After disconnecting the battery, I was able to manually wind them down. After the repair (replaced its CPU#2), I tried to manually wind up the lights and they snapped back down.
Hello. Ok so they don’t have any power to them apart from the lights coming on. When the problem started they worked intermittently, some times they worked fine then nothing. This went on for a week or so both worked the same though, so equally up and equally down. For example not a fault on just one.
then nothing no ups or downs. Now I Wind then up using the red Turner on each of the lights and to be fair you can go both ways but there is a directional arrow on top. There’s no resistance or movement at all.
if you over wind them up or down they get to the point they will go back the way they came (up or down). And the switch on the dash does nothing at at all.
however I did leave that switch pressed in once over night and when I came out in morning the lights were up. But that was in the intermittent stage , nothing now!!
hope that makes sense 😂
thanks
jamie
Thanks for the explanation! The intermittent problem you described could be the result of a wire problem or a logic system fault. Have you noticed any unusual rubbing or wear marks on your fender liners? There maybe a pinched or chaffed wire in a loom that runs along the fender.
Did you have only 1 mechanic look at all the electrical work or have others dug around?
Success all, so happy. Auto electrician found there was no fees to the relay next to footwell. No problem with earths and all motors were fine. Took him about an hour to diagnose the problem and run a new feed with a fuse. Said it was easier to run a feed than sort the old one. They work perfect and the button in dash as well. He said it was a common fault and had worked in the RX7 loads in the past. Booked him for next week to sort my central locking witch he said is a seloniod problem. And an added note he only charged me £45 that’s UK. But that’s still worth every penny. I hope this helps anyone in the future.
thanks for all advise as well.
