Question EGT Question

my car will not maintain exhaust temps at idle. while i am driving, the exhaust temps are about 800 deg but the minute i stop for a light they drop down to about 200 deg. also it does not idle properly. in fact if i turn on the air, the car will stall. is there a chance the turbo manifold is cracked and the lack of backpressure is causing the rough idle or a possible vacuum line that i should look for?

just a side note, boost is fine.... and power is great. please help

Your exhaust temp has nothing to do with your rough idle.

EGT is there to tell you how rich or lean you are running. Usually hotter temps means richer, and cooler temps mean leaner. I think thats right lol.

the other way around... leaner = hotter; richer = cooler

too rich and it may get superhot due to fuel burning in the exhaust pipes

I found part of my problem....the vacuum line to the purge control solenoid valve was not connected!!!!!!!! Idle is a lot better but still cannot turn on the air without stalling the car....will continue to search for disconnected vacuum lines.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Read Damian's thread in the Advanced Tech section about fixing idle problems.
