egr valve problems?
Has anyone else had any problems with their EGR valves? I have gone through several and think that I am losing the one currently in the car. Also if anyone has any reasons as to why they don't last.

dump the egr!!! just cap it off at each end and that will bypass the system!! plus it will give you a bett er boost if it has the older style gasket!! the only way to tell if you have the older style gasket is to look at the siz of the hole old style has a hole the size of your pinkey and new style is a size of a pin(about)

egr valve location
the service manual shows it just above the turbos and beside the plenum. the mazda service guys say that because of the extreme heat that is why they blow. I just do not know if that is the case or not.

Yeah dump that egr. Either get a block off plate or just block the vacumm signal going to it somehow. It will pass smog with it disconected as long as you fool the ecu with a relay to make it think it's working so the check engine light wont come on. Its easy to make it "look" like its still conected. As far as hooking up a relay to it, the two wires going to the switch button on the egr get switched together when the egr opens. So all you have to do is wire a relay off of the egr solenoid harness under the upper intake manifold to switch the two wires going to the button on the egr together when theres power going threw the harness. I might not be explaining this very well. Do a search, thats how I found out about it. It does work, I'm sure of that.

I think if you have aftermarket ECU e.g. Power FC. You do not have to worry about the engine check light.
It was pulled anyway from the ECU plug.
And removing, then capping the EGR hole should take care of the problem.
