EGR, DP Install

I am attempting to install a DP and EGR at the same time.

For the EGR, I am not removing the intake manifold as per the website below. I have removed the airbox and all hoses and am down to the tubo manifold(Is this also called the Y-Pipe?).

The turbo manifold is in 2 parts, 1 fore, 1 aft. I have removed all of the bolts and hoses off of the forward-most section. It seems the only thing that is stopping me from removing it is some restriction in the second half since I can move it in 3 dimensions until it hits something inside of the second section.

My issue with the DP install is that the turbo manifold is in the way for me to access to top most rearward bolt on the DP. So once I get that turbo manifold removed, I should be homefree...

Any suggestions? Am I just missing something when Im attempting to remove the turbo manifold?

Thanks,

EGR Install

I don't quite understand your progress. Did you remove the rear (secondary) turbo inlet, yet? You need to remove that before you can remove the y-pipe and charge elbow. I have long, skinny arms and was able to reach behind there with my small rathet and 2 1/2" extention to get the secondary inlet off.

I got it from above. There's two nuts and they're the same size as the ones holding down the y-pipe and charge elbow (10mm I think). I used a 1/4" drive ratchet with a 7" handle and a shallow socket with a 2-1/2" extension, and I had just enough room for about an eighth turn. I was able to get just enough torque on them to break them loose and remove them by hand. I couldn't see what I was doing, so I had to do it all by feel. When I was done I put them back on the same way.

Thanks a ton... I will make a better effort next time. I may need to buy more tools as well.

If you are going to buy a new ratchet, get one that's shorter than 7". This should allow you more turning room in that tight area.

You do not necessarily on all 3rd gens need to take off the secondary turbo inlet pipe. When I did my DP I did take it off because many said it had to be done (plus I wanted to work on the charge control section). When I did my efini y-pipe install I did not need to take off the secondary inlet pipe, however.
Your mileage may vary.
