Efini Steering Wheel Install...clock spring question
Hi Everyone:
I'm finally getting around to swapping out my stock steering wheel for the Efini wheel but ran into a little snag. The oem clock springs' wires doesn't come into the same area as in the back of the Efini wheel (stock is in the 6'o clock position and Efini seems to be in the 12'o clock). I do want to retain the clock spring so I have the horn and the auto-signal cancelling but not sure how to move forward in the installation.
So I was wondering for the guys that did the Efini wheel swap...what did you guys end up doing to complete the installation?
I've read about widening the hole on the Efini wheel and turning the clock spring position to the "6'o clock" but not sure about if that effects anything.
I also read about using a hub adapter...but I didn't see how that applies with the Efini wheel.
Thoughts?

The only thing you can do is drill through the wheel and open the hole to fit the efini wheel
You can also try and find the original clock spring that went on the efini wheel. However I don't know if the connectors and wiring will be the same
I just removed mine completely, the only thing you need it for is the horn, which I didn't really care for enough to do any of the above.

You just have to drill two small indentations for the tabs of the turn signal cancelling mechanism to fit into. Very simple, will take all of 5 minutes to do.
I helped a buddy install a '99+ wheel, he did the drilling and had it knocked out in no time. Do some searching too, he found a writeup of someone who installed the later wheel and found out the trick.

quick question while were on swapping steering wheel talk , i purchased a aftermarket steering wheel and it comes with the wire for the horn so would i be able to leave the two wires coming out of the plastic hub for the wheel lock and attach the one ground wire for the horn from the stock hub to the aftermarket wheel ground wire .
basically redoing the stock way of the horn wiring on the aftermarket wheel , would it work tho in theory it seems it would but i am deleting the cruise control , air bag
i have seen some of the write up on this trying to make your horn still work after installing an aftermarket wheel and using a hair clip and such but on that write up he removed the plastic hub with the wheel lock coil inside and i was not sure if it was a must to remove it

You need the clockspring if you like a functioning horn button
The wire for the horn is green with a red tracer if memory serves.
vrx8, if yours was straightforward then you had an FD wheel. Miata/protege wheels require drilling of the turn signal cancels at 12 and 6 o'clock.

The wheel is in and everything seems to be in working order
What I ended up doing was dremeling the hole on the back of the Efini wheel wide enough to fit the blue connectors from the clock spring though. Next I turned the clock spring counter-clockwise so that the wires are in the 180 position. Fitted the wires through the back of the steering wheel and tightened the 21 mm bolt back tight.
For the horn, I ended up pulling the pin connector off of the Efini horn and then took the pin off the orange connector from the original wheel and fitted the wire from the Efini wheel to the orange connector and connected that back to the blue plug on the clock spring.
I know its a little more fiddly but I felt it was a cleaner install that way.
