Question ECUs and EBCs... What do I need?

I've just started to modify my 7 and have done the usual radiator upgrade, vacuum lines and gauges but now I'm going to go for a bit of power and need to know what is the best ECU for me if I don't know much about tuning or have a dyno handy. Should I go with a preprogramed one like the M2 or am I going to be able to tune a programable one, I've got quite a bit of common sense but no turbo tuning experience. I just want something that'll work well with a full exhaust, intake, intercooler etc. and will and will keep the car reliable, no extreme tuneing because it's a daily driver. Also, do the aftermarket ECUs incorperate an EBC or do I need to get one and if so, which is best for an FD3?

I agree with zoom too much has been discussed already and it would be just too damn hard to make sense of hundreds of posts on the same subject. There's always new stuff to add.

exactly. TO MUCH. try reading some of it. if you cant decifer what is the right info for you...post a specific question. most people are not going to answer you because they have already answered 180 other people with the same question and are tired of it.
lets take a look at his request....

I've just started to modify my 7 and have done the usual radiator upgrade, vacuum lines and gauges but now I'm going to go for a bit of power and need to know what is the best ECU for me if I don't know much about tuning or have a dyno handy.
good. he has already given us some background to his car. BUT....what mods does he already have? (guages and vacume hoses and radiator do not count in requesting an ECU) we also know that he is not familiar with the basics of tuning a car.

lets move on...

Should I go with a preprogramed one like the M2 or am I going to be able to tune a programable one, I've got quite a bit of common sense but no turbo tuning experience.
OK. he already knows that M2 offers a preprogramed ECU. did he know there was an entire section of this forum dedicated to ECU discussion? i dont know if he does by the question about if he would be able to tune it himself. if he doubts his ability...try reading through some threads in the POWER FC forum. i doubt he is looking into a MoTec or haltech when mentioning an programable ecu. there are also plenty of base maps floating around to get him going for WHATEVER mods he has.
another thing to consider...if there is a tuner near you...what programable ecu's are they comfortable with tunning?

moving on...

I just want something that'll work well with a full exhaust, intake, intercooler etc. and will and will keep the car reliable, no extreme tuneing because it's a daily driver. Also, do the aftermarket ECUs incorperate an EBC or do I need to get one and if so, which is best for an FD3?

here a question is raised by the person going to reply to this part.
"what are your plans for the car?" are you going to be happy with *just* these mods, or are you going to go further in the future? is the car always going to be a daily driver...or is that just for this month? spending the money wisely the FIRST time can save you a lot of money in the long run.

this is all i am going to say.
i stick by what i said. try to do a little research. i am not being an *** by telling you to do a search.

hmm ive been workin on my rx-7 for almost 2 months now.. alone and by my self. when i installed my boost guage.. it was me alone.. not knowing a damn thing to do.. same thing with the turbo timer. and rear quater pannel... and new turbo's.. and etc...

you know what i figured out.. if anyone would ask me how to do it.. then i would happly help.. because i wouldnt want them ******* UP THEIR CAR because they had a misunderstanding about what they read.. hey thats fine.. sometimes it alot harder to make sence outta things without seeing it. i am one of those people.. but if you dont like helping other people here. this fourm or any fourm isnt a place for you.. im sick and tired of hearing " use the search button" .. and when they ask a question about that subject because they dont understand. they get flammed for it.

Quit this **** and start helping people and being a lil nicer about it.

also justin. the ECU's are really a personal issue.. its usally decided on what you are gonna do with the car.. highly mod it.. then you got motec, AEM, and some others

if its lightly mod then AEM , Power FC, M2 , pettit and etc.

im gonna get the AEM just seems like the step up from the power FC.

Arrow Well-----

Coming from an IT background myself, probably half the reason for using the search button is since the question is already out there, you probably got someone that spent hours responding to the exact same question earlier, is proud of his response and doesn't want to repeat it again.

On the side of reality, there is storage, and a Db required to run this site that will continue to grow and consume resources the larger it gets. Sure that someone is flipping the bill to keep all this stuff on-line. So the more redundant postings out there, the less space available for the questions that haven't been asked yet.

Well, if it were my site, that would be my best explination that I would give to the crowd.

To the few people who have tryed to help me out with my question, I really appreciate it, you people are very kind to take a minute of your time to help out. To those of you who don't want to be of any help, I'd appreciate it if you'd just not reply. If you feel that the topic has been discussed to death or has been covered well enough in other forums that's fine, just don't click on a new post for something that's going to upset you. You might not understand the sircumstances of the person asking the question, for instance, rxrotary2_7 told me to do a search because the topic is all over the place and the info's out there, well, I happen to be in the United States Army and currently deployed to Kuwait where I have very limited access to the internet and when I do have access the connection is very slow, it takes a few MINUTES at times for a page to load on this forum, no kidding. If I were to try to search every thing I wanted to know it would take much more time than I have. This is the reason I posted the question, in hope that some people would be kind enough to help out a fellow enthusiast. Over here thinking about and reading the few books I have on RX-7s is one of my only distractions/enjoyment. I'm sorry that I'm not as knowledgable as some when it comes to RX-7s, forgive me if I ask a question that you might consider to be less that educated but that's how people learn! Also, shred, I realize you were just trying to explain why you think my question is a waste of space on the forum but have you ever stopped to consider that the long winded explinations you give to all of our silly questions take up just as much precious space? I'm sorry to all of those who were kind enough to help out or polite enough to not complain because some of us don't do things the way others would like.

sorry you web connection is slow. i feel for you. i was not trying to be an ***.
as far as telling me to not click on a link...i am supposed to click on ALL links to babysit all the people that get out of line.

you would be surprised at how many people dont even realize there is a search function. sorry my telling you to search has pissed you off.
thanks for explaining your situation in life...but to further help you, you still have not explained what your future plans are for the car.

oh and even though i told you to search, i did still give you some good info on things to consider.
haev a good day
