ECU vs. Fuel Management upgrade - ???
Okay, I'm just now getting into the whole ECU drama, so forgive me if this is one of those questions that makes you smack your forehead....
What's the advantage of going with a full ECU upgrade/swap as opposed to upgrading the Fuel Management System instead? From what I'm reading, they both help provide more fuel to the engine to compensate for air flow upgrades that may cause lean conditions. What else does an ECU provide over the FM upgrade? If I'm not looking for gobs of power or boost, and am not concerned about future expandability (I'm contemplating selling the car once I get it running right), why would it be more beneficial for me to go with an ECU?
The big reason I ask is upgrading the Fuel Management system seems to be a lot cheaper than upgrading the ECU

I'm assuming, by "fuel management", you are referring to something like the Apexi S-AFC?
Any of those piggyback fuel computers won't work because
a) they don't have nearly enough resolution.
b) they don't prevent the stock ecu from enacting fuel cut.
Frankly, looking at your mod list is pretty damn scary. At the least, you should be running a Pettit or M2 ecu, but preferably a PFC.

And one more thing, how the hell can you buy those mods without the support of an aftermarket ECU to prevent KABOOM?
Did you buy the car like that or something?

I was told by numerous people that the stock ECU should be fine since I'm not running more than 10-11lbs of boost, but now that I have the car back that's apparently not the case. So, now I'm looking at the ECU end of things.
Anyways, thanks for the clarification

I'm going to try to get in touch with Pettit tomorrow @ work.
Anyone know why they say their chip isn't for ported motors, yet there are plenty of people who say and do otherwise?
And yes, I am seriously considering selling it once I get it running correctly again. It's getting to be a bit too much for me financially and emotionally.

It probably depends on the port, but there is a member here by the username of "RTS3GEN" who has been running a Pettit ECU on a Pettit Race Ported motor for years without any problems (and he also has a 11.77 timeslip on his hands with stock twins, stock fuel system aside from a fuel pump).
