ECU next or FMIC???

ECU next or FMIC???
On the subject about the to many mods for the ECU. Is an Intake, Downpipe, Midpipe, Catback, and FMIC, to many mods for a stock ECU? Cuz right now i have everything else but but the FMIC, i am wondering if i should do the ECU or the FMIC or can i get by with the FMIC and stock ECU. Or should i do the ECU first

Well thanks for the input the. The car runs fine right now. And it has run fine for a wail. Yes i still have stock boost. Err maybe 12psi, but any way if i wouldnt have stock boost i would of listed a boost controler So yeah i will be gettin the Apex Power FC. Thanks for the advise.

guys, i have 2 question about ECU while SpoolinRX brings up the topic, my friend is going to sell me a 2nd ECU soon, buti want to know:
1) everytime i add goodies / modifications to my car, to i have to get someone to re-tune it again to avoid running lean? or is it more like a once-off thing?
2) my friend also recommend a guy who has been doing many tuning for high performance and race cars, but they are all non-rotary cars, do i need a rotary guy to tune it for me? or doesn't matter as long as he know how to tune a ECU?

Spoolin.... yes you need to get an ECU next... no ifs, ands, or buts about it.
Azaka....
1) Yes as once you pass the 3mod stage it would be a good idea to retune for any other engine performance mods you make
2) I guess I'd put it this way.... would you let your Vet work do your dental work? Even though both are doctors they have different specialties. Although there are many piston guys who know something about rotaries or may be good at tuning other non rotary engines, if you have the ability to go to a specialist that's reputable why wouldn't you do it.

I'm a little confused about one thing here. I know that an aftermarket ECU should be used to ensure that the engine doesn't run lean and detonate.. But if you limit the boost to stock levels, 10psi - then isn't the engine getting just as much air as a stock car would? Why would it need fuel enrichment? I'm not doubting it does - I'm just unsure of the technical reasons behind it.

Boost pressure doesn't mean the amount of air, just (obviously) what pressure it is at.
You can get more air without raising the pressure, otherwise all motor tuning wouldn't exist Raising the pressure is just one way of getting more air into the engine, clearing used gases out of the engine quickly is another way (exhaust), making it easier to get more air in as well (intake), and increasing the density of pressurised air (intercooler) all end up in your motor being able to take in more air, and requiring different amounts of fuel - to generate more power

As far as I understand, yeah Typically a substantial boost increase is going to increase the amount of air going in a fair amount more than changing your d.p. or something like that - so it is probably a very good indicator of when you need to sort out your tuning, I personally am going to go straight to a PowerFC when I buy my FD..

Please do yourself a favor and grab an ECU as soon as possible. You should also throw in a good boost controller with those mods. Try to keep off the boost until you get those added and all the bugs worked out.
Edit: By the way, have you done any of the cooling mods or installed any guages yet? Oh, and check these links out:

Ok sorry i havent posted in a little bit but. I do have gadges. I have the ever usless A/F ratio gadge, boost, and water temp. And dont treat me like dumb *** just for asking a simple question. Thats what this forum is for. Questions. Any way, Yeah i plan on gettin some kinda coolent upgrade as in a radatior and the aluminum air separator tank. I will get the Fluidyne prob at the same time as the FMIC. But now that i know i will do my ECU next. I plan on the Apex'i Power FC with the FC-Datalogit. Thanks for all your input guys.
