ecu and exhaust installed - now -1psi

i just installed an m2 stage 3 ecu and a racing beat dual tip exhaust the other day. it seems the boost went down 1psi. doing a boost test on the highway, i got 9-7-9 a couple times. i had a perfect 10-8-10 boost before this. mods were intake, downpipe and now exhaust and ecu. with the m2 ecu, i should be getting 12-10-12. i doubt the exhaust is the problem since flow mods tend to raise boost rather than restrict it. the car does feel faster and turbos spool even quicker than before. only problem is my boost gauge is showing me 9-7-9.

i'm compelled to try a boost test with my stock ecu but i'm a little scared cause i don't want to detonate/blow my motor.

any ideas?
-could it be my boost gauge or leak in the vacuum line leading to it?
-ecu got hit by some static and shorted the programming from m2? person i bought it from (Satan's RX7) said it was boosting 12-10-12 before he shipped it.

thanks in advance
kris

You need an aftermarket boost controller to override the default value in set in the ecu. HAd the same problem with my XS ecu.

i thought it was automatically set to a higher value once it's reprogrammed?

I went the same route as you. Intake, dp and then M2 ecu but, I got the cat back later. My boost automatically went to 12-10-12 when I got the ecu back from M2. Don't know it that helps.
Like chiminoid said... you can tweak your boost up with a boost controller.
Maybe you can bolt your stock cat back on and then try it with your stock ecu?

well that would make absolutely no sense.

intake+dp+stock ecu = 10-8-10

intake+dp+exhaust+m2 ecu = 9-7-9

why would i put the stock cb and ecu back on when i already know how it's going to run. that's the way i was running for a good 4 months.

Yeah, I guess so. It would just prove that your boost guage is still operating the same. Then you could switch to the M2 ecu to see the difference.

did you reset the ecu by diconnecting the battery? I would swap back the stock ecu and see if boost picks up then you know for sure its the ecu.

You can also play with the pills in the wastegate line to modify the boost.

intake+dp+stock ecu = 10-8-10

intake+dp+exhaust+m2 ecu = 9-7-9

6/9/03 12:01 PM
intake+dp+exhaust+ STOCK ecu = 10-8-10

I think that with reprogrammed ecu's you have to get boost controller and then raise the boost to the desired level.

Negative, ghostrider. Reprogrammed ECUs have the wastegate solenoid duty cycles changed for the extra boost, so you don't (shouldn't) need a boost controller to raise boost up to 12 psi. When I installed my Pettit ECU with no other additional mods, boost pattern went from 8-7-8 to 12-10-12 psi.

Chiminoid, you don't have any other modifications besides the ones you listed, right? No HD boost valves or different pills, etc.?

Not really sure if static electricity would "short out" the mods to the stock chip. I'd take a look at the ECU and see if the chip has ID markings from M2 on it.

only performance mods i have are listed. i didn't think i would need a boost controller with a reprogrammed ecu, otherwise m2 would probably incorporate that into their performance packages. the ecu does have the m2 chips on them.

maybe because i have a 94 and the ecu is a 93. i don't think it should have much to do with it because i've read at least 6 or 7 people on the boards who've done this. the only way i think ecu's would make a difference is in the case of cali ecus and non-cali ecu's

perhaps a call to M2 is in order...

m2 said that there is a slight difference in the ecu's for different years. some people can get them to work perfectly but i guess i'm not so lucky.
m2 said they would swap the chips into my stock 94 ecu for $200... too bad i can't afford it...
