CA Eccentric Shafts, whats the difference?

Hey guys, I am in the process of selling one of my REW eccentric shaft to a friend of mine. I happened to have an S4 na eccentric shaft laying around so I decided to compare the two to see if there were any differences. Are these eccentric shafts the same? They look identical to the naked eye but are there any actual differences? I did use the search but I couldnt find much on this topic.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know about the S4, but I compared a FD and S5 e-shaft with a micrometer.

The major difference is the location of the oil journals. Other than that, it is a direct swap. That is, with the correct sized rotor/stat bearings.

I have a ton of extras if you need one. I would run a fd shaft with a fd. They made changes to the stationary gears by making them harder but not sure on the shaft.

IIRC, the FD E-shafts go through a kind of hardening process. They're not interchangeable with earlier pieces because of this.

Mono-I thought the hi power rx8 shafts were hardened as well, similar process as the rew.

RX8 journal = 60 Rockwell C
FD journal = 58 Rockwell C

RX8 center = 22 Rockwell C
FD center = 12 Rockwell C(some one claimed this shouls be on the b scale. ie softer)

And don't the rew and rx8 have a slight taper on the main bearing?

I understand where you're going with this; alhough the hardness has nothing to do with it. I'll help you by just saying this. Call Carlos Lopez at CLR and tell him you want him to balance your Renesis eccentric shaft for "high horsepower." He'll either tell you to toss it in the trash or hang up the phone.
