Eccentric shaft play (excessive)
Ok, i just brought a friends FD into his garage to change the oil at 500 miles and it started making noise. Turns out the "crank angle/hall effect" sensor is being hit by its complimentary position pulley. I pulled everything off and found that the pully can be pulled on and a gap between the sensors and pully are then created. Once you press the clutch in and out, the E-shaft pops back and things are in contact again. Basically, there is eccesive endplay in the E shaft.
My question is, what does everyone think is the problem. The car ran perfect for 500 miles, but now things are rubbing. I have an unfortunate feeling that something is up just inside the front cover with all the spacers/bearings.
Any ideas on this one (before i go pulling the front cover)???

Does it have an aftermarket main pulley that requires the center bolt to be removed (as opposed to a pulley that bolts to the stock hub)? If the bolt was ever removed (like for the pulley install) it might be this issue:

The main pulley might visibly wobble if this is the case. Watch out for a bent e-shaft, too. If you find that it is bent, use a new e-shaft from the 74-85 13B -- it is about half the price of the FD shaft, just as strong, and it doesn't have a thermal pellet in the front.

I've got a similar question. The P/S belt wont stay on. Yup the main pulley wobbles. And its has done it since I bought it. The bolt looks like it has had an impact taken to it before. havent checked endplay but what could cause the wobble? please dont say a bent e-shaft. that would be bad. anyway thanks in advance. And for the DSM's I hope to god you dont have a 7 bolt main. I did once. Bad Joo Joo

Yeah, your thrust bearings are shot and the shaft might be bent. For a little comfort, I think I drove my car 5K+ miles that way, including one open track event and a 2500 mile trip across the country. But it ate the rear main seal and we discovered the real problem eventually.
