Ebay front Bumper-anyone bought one?
Ebay front Bumper-anyone bought one?
I am not saying I am going to buy one. I was just looking on ebay and they had some for 80 dollars that looked decent.
Yes I am sure there will be fitment issues and etc.
Just wondering if anyone has bought one or knows somebody that has.
Thanks

all aftermarket bumpers have fitment issues. considering you will have to sand/fill/prime/paint it anyways, fitment issues really just tie into the whole "getting a new bumper" game. unless its insanely poor quality. youve seen pimp my ride im sure, any bumper can fit on anything. link? i may try one i have paypal funds just waiting to be spent.
Don't waste your time. As I like to say, the FD is a QUALITY CAR and deserves only QUALITY PARTS.
Think about it - WHY is it so cheap? It's most likely cheap, thin fiberglass, it's probably been copied a zillion times so the fit isn't even close. After spending a LOT of money at a bodyshop to get it to fit, you still have cheap, thin fiberglass that will crack and splinter at the first thing it bumps into. Then all that money is down the toilet.
Remember too that bodyshops charge $75-100 an hour. If they have to pour hours of work into the bumper sanding, cutting, test fitting, etc. your savings fly right out the window.
If you don't want to pay for a "name brand" JDM front bumper, get a good quality one from Shine Auto. They make quality parts for a fair price. And, you'll be supporting a vendor who supports the forum, not some Ebay dude selling cheap Chinese stuff who could care less about RX-7's or the community.

Actually bought some fiberglass supplies the other day for a project on my car.
5 meters of 1.5oz
1 Gallon of Resin
1 meter of reinforcement (Used for flat sections of fiberglass)
and that came to like 85$. It would have been more but I already had Gelcoat at home.
Think about it if just the materials to do it yourself assuming you already had a mold are more than the asking price there is something seriously wrong there.....

exactly.
in most cases you are repainting anyways. so how much more work is a bit of fiberglass/sanding? not much in my book...
I hit a racoon with my GTC and was able to peice it back together, fiberglass it and make it look as good as new. if you are worried about fitment then stick to a stock bodied FD, a lot of cars are minorly tweaked here in there, it isnt really the product but the car they used to fit it on. the car is 18 years old...
if I bought one of these bumpers and made it a perfect fit on my car, you would likely need to sand/fill here and there to get it to fit on yours.
spending 500 on a replica isnt going to get you a "bolt on" direct fitment.
I agree with one part of your statement and that is any bumper will require fitment.
If you are working on your own time and you have time to spare than yes they savings may be worth it. However, if your time is valuable and you want a premium product that starting with a quality replica is already a huge step forwards.
The look at the resins used in the cheap parts and what happens to the parts over time. Personally from what I have seen cheap parts produce a very wavy and distorted appearance regardless of the amount of preparation and fiberglass hair filler used.
For me a even aftermarket body work should be of a sufficient level to reach an OEM-;like finish if not it is not worth installing regardless of price.
