Eagerness to light em up and kick in 1st and 2nd when running 1/4 tank of gas...

Anyone have this problem with 1/4 tank or less and punching it in first or 2nd? I got some yokohama AVS dB's probably pieces of **** but I will get something better when I buy another set. I was testing this and my car light them up at 4500rpm and kicked in 1st, then I did a 20mph in 2nd roll and punched it, kicked again but even more violently at 4500rpms. Weird but I guess it would make me quicker from a 60roll type situation. I filled up on gas and it stopped happening... damn weight over the tires issues. I have a downpipe, high flow cat, catback, lightweight flywheel, racing clutch assembly. It's also cold in houston right now... like <40's cold.

Just a note, I was told never to get on it with less than a 1/2 tank of gas....

The weather is probably the biggest factor...and then the tires...

I say 1/4

1/2 you should be fine...

open up your fuel tank and see if you have baffling around your fuel pump - apparently some people don't and it was changed in shape from one year to the other.

this probably belongs in 3rd gen specific btw...

As far as I know all FDs in the US have the same baffling. In 96 Mazda added another baffle that basically covered the "cup" that the fuel pump sits in.

I have a NEW 96+ tank in my car that I ordered from Mazdacomp. It does make a difference, auto-xing the car I used to have to run the car over 3/4 full to prevent starvation. Now I have run it down to 1/4 tank w/o starvation.

On the street you shouldn't have really any problems with starvation. I have run the car down to 1/4 tank and not had any starvation running it pretty hard.

There is a big difference between auto-xing on R compound tires and driving on street rubber.

From: Sport Compact Car, March 2003, There are also engine control issues that will only show up when the car is fully warmed up. Look for smooth engine operation under light and full throttle conditions. Specifically check for hesitation or stuttering. It can happen around 3,000rpm under light acceleration, indicating a grounding issue causing problems with the activation of the secondary fuel injectors. A second stutter around 4,500rpm is usuall an invisible vacume hose problem in the hideously complex sequential turbo actuation mechanism
Also the car will have a fuel starvation problem when turning left with less than a quarter tank of gas.(THIS CAN BLOW APEX SEALS!!!! So make shur its got more than a 1/4 tank in it)

For the grounding ussue, get some larger guage cable with a nice silicon insulater and make your own ground kit. It will help with many things and is relitivly cheap.

I hope that helps out some.

I made a mental note on that, no punching it at 1/4 tank.... that's a wild *** ride, it kicks all over the place even punching from 2nd at 20mph, at 4500 it lights em up and kicks all over. I filled up, the problem went away.
