Dyno Results!

Went to the dyno for the first time tonight. My mods are downpipe and RB dual-tip cat-back.

For the first run (hard to see), I had a boost leak (coupler on y-pipe to intercooler pipe had slipped a little). The next two runs took place after fixing the coupler.

The boost pattern for the last two runs was 10.5-8-10 but my boost fell to 7 psi after 6000 rpm. So, I imagine I should be making at least 10-15 more hp. Notice how rich the car runs on the stock ecu.

Now, I just have to figure out why my boost is falling to 7 after 6000 rpm and regain those lost horsepower.

BTW, thanks to the guys at ATP. I recommend their shop to anyone.

what do stock FDs dyno at? I have the same mods, downpipe and catback and curious what I would get also. what's actually involved? do you sit in the car and just give it gas in 4th gear?

what was the temp ..

a healthy stock FD runs 210-215rwhp...

estimation of 245-250rwhp for dp and cb seems somehat high....

Actually, I though more like 215-220 rwhp for stock.

I don't think that estimation is high, I'm making 240 at only 7 psi.

Well, first of all, THEY drive the car. They run it up through the first 3 gears trying not to boost -- to keep your intake temps low. Then they shift into 4th at fairly low rpm and go WOT. They either hold til redline or the power starts noticeably dropping off. They also watch your A/F ratio to make sure you're not running lean.

Damn impressive! Makes me want to throw mine on a dyno... However, I doubt I ever will because I would probably be disappointed with the numbers..

I'll stick with the butt-dyno.

thanks for the info. sounds easy, think i'll wait until i resolve my 13psi boost problem to avoid blowing up my engine. i remember hearing that each dyno is different so you shouldn't think of the absolute #s are 100% accurate.

At Rosen Autosport here in Richmond they let you drive the car on the dyno. It's fun experience to let it all hang out and make some noise indoors!

local reputable rotary tuner indicated to me that the average was 210-215rwhp with a few that has hit the high teens

wow...i only netted 265rwhp @ 106 degrees
to include... in addition to your DP/CB... a MP/PFC/Pulleys/Ypipe at 10psi...
if 250rwhp is the norm for DP and CB....hmmnnn
although the tuner seemed content with the output in my last dyno session...indicated no issues on the car.
too conservative on the tuning i assume ?

how much did ATP charge and did they only give you 3 runs??? Also, i think they should let you drive your own car. It is YOUR car afterall and it doesnt' hurt their machinery or anything if you drive your own car.

Thanks Gordon. Yeah, I was surprised when the A/F ratios came up. More proof of what Wade Langham's testing has shown -- the stock ecu has enough fuel to handle a lot of mods at the stock boost level.

I look forward to getting a stand-alone ecu to raise the A/F to 11:1. And to get rid of that damn 3k hesitation.

Zerobanger: It was good meeting you and checking out your car. Black FDs look mean.

It was definitely cool to hear our cars go WOT in 4th from 2k to 7.5k rpm. That was the best part of the whole dyno experience.

Actually, they gave us a really good deal. $65 for three runs with wideband. They gave us all the time we wanted between runs to make adjustments, fix leaky couplers, etc. I highly recommend their shop.

I actually preferred to let them drive the car. It was cool listening to the exhaust from outside of the car and watching the rubber couplers expand at WOT.

Yes Tyler..

It was cool meeting you and doing the dyno, i'm going back soon as you can guess....Its nice to see another FD too, specially one as clean as yours.

And yes WOT at 7500 rpms rock! I have been analyzing my dyno sheet, I scanned it, but I am not sure how to post my scan as a picture rather than a link, most forums do it automatically, but here it always shows up as a link, how did you post yours?

Also, when you get your boost problem resolved, I see solid 250 HP for you. Did you find it odd that my horsepower peaks around 5700 and holds till the redline?

David

These guys were awesome. They spent 2 hours with us both (in total) and charged 65 each of us including wideband and were VERY patient. I will go back to them.

Nice numbers, is that a T-78? Yeah, our ambient temps were in the 60s I think. Pretty cool out, which probably didn't hurt. Please post your dyno gordon, it would be good to see what a well tuned T-78 power curve looks like.

BTW, David, I posted my dyno as an attachment in the Test 51 section and then linked it to this post. Soon, I'll have my website up and won't have to deal with it.

Hello, I added your dyno numbers to my "dyno estimator" or whatever you want to call it at:

Enjoy.

They do let you drive your own car. I drove mine and most of the other people there drove their own. ATP is a good place to dyno at. Cool guys.

That's a really cool site, Wargasm. Lots of real world numbers instead of all the advertising.

with a 10-12-12 pattern. I have the same sub-10 fuel ratio prob like u..
