you live in bothell? i live like 2 minutes from bothell, i've never seen an FD in that area. so are we allowed to take ours off in our area? i think i just might do it, because mine is hanging off mesh and flips back when moving forward

I lost mine 2 years ago,
How?

I used to put it on if I parked on the street, just by tucking it in the bumper opeinning so I don't get a ticket.
Yep, I forgot it there and drove off.

Went to PD and reported it lost, they gave me a piece of paper showing that I reported it , that's it.
Got pulled over beacuse of it, a year after, showed the paper and ... peace !

$100 for no license plate in San Francisco? That's crazy! I got one for no front plate on my Miata a couple years ago and it was $10.00 plus you had to get a cop to sign you off when you put the plate back on.

I have never put a front plate on any of my cars. I have only had a problem once and that was when I was pulled over for speeding anyway and he decided to add the front plate violation just to be nice.

Mine is in the pocket behind the seat and last time I got pulled over for it, I threw it up on the dash as I was getting off the road. The police officer saw it on the dash and told me to put it on the bumper. He gave me a written warning and let me go.

when i first got my fd, it had a bracket already with the plate but as soon as i took possession of the car, i took out the front plate and bracket and stuffed the plate in my windshield..about 4 months later, i so called "ran" a red light (it was yellow when i passed the white lines) and a cop was apparently getting into his squad car and saw me so he followed me for a couple of blocks..

he pulled me over when i turned onto a non busy side street and told me to not run a red light in front of a cop cause its disrespectful and that he could give me a ticket for that, my exhaust and not having a front plate on my bumper..

i put the front plate on like a week later, im not taking chances with cops anymore..i like to reduce to number of reasons why they should pull me over..

I can't wait to see the pictures when you get into an accident and the plate is lodged half-way into your skull.

I trimmed the heck out of mine, mounted it below the front bumper air inlet, and cops don't bother me. It lowered intake temps to absolute zero

We have to have them unfortunatetely.

Before I bought my car, some idiot decided to try and get the plate to sit flush with the bumper. He achieved this by pushing in a nice big dent behind the plate. How could you do that to such a car? I don't understand. Some may have seen my other posts, I'm currently trying to get it repaired.

Usually accidents send things forward, so the plate isn't going anywhere but right where it is. lol einstein

Not sure if this is directed towards me but just to be clear...I don't drive with it up there. I just threw it up there as I was pulling over.

I live in Marysville, just north of Everett, and no, you arent allowed to take them off as far as I know. I was pulled over and given a warning for not having a front plate on my old Probe a few years ago. My FD doesnt have one, and wont if I can help it.

Wasnt there some rule excluding cars that left the factory without a place to mount a front plate from the law stating that you had to have one? 'Cause I see Corvettes all the time without them, and thats how they're sold....

Can't speak exactly to Washington State's MV laws, but I know of no exceptions..in any state. Corvettes are in fact, sold with a the recessed area for license plate and just because GM sticks a filler panel over it for cosmetics, doesn't change state law.
FWIW, in most states the law requires these basic things:
1. Mounted a minimum distance from the ground, usually 12".
2. Mounted level
3. Can't swing (yes that would include fujikuro's setup as well)
4. Can't have any coverings over it that will effect the reflectivity or cover any part of the plate.

Obviously jurisdictions don't enforce the requirements uniformly, but in my state, it's total fine (with costs) of $66.50.

There's no way a plate is going on my car. I've owned an RX7 since 1994, and never put a front plate on one. I'll pay the fine.

I dont run a front plate on my rx7 or my audi (although on the audi i have it in the windshield). Even though it is required to have one in NY, i havent been bothered by the autorities for it (knock on wood). I would rather risk a ticket for not having a front plate once in a while then the cost of a new motor due to it overheating. The one time i had an officer politely ask me why I didnt have one (when i was in a parking lot), i told him i couldnt get ahold of one and they are on backorder at the mazda dealerships due to the age of the car. He said ok.
