Dude, where's my ignition wire???

Can anyone tell me where to tap into it so I can get my water temp gauge working? I just had my wiring harness replaced and it looks like there are 100 more wires at the foot of the driver side then there were before. I have the shop manual but I can't seem to tell which one it is. What page should I look at? The A pod is all in place just no power. Any help would be appreciated.

If you just need power, just use those little adapters to tap into the fuse box (it's a little metal piece that slides in with a fuse).

If your trying to hook up a gauge, you don't necessarily have to tap directly into the ignition wiring. You could also tap into an accessory line. Get a multimeter, turn your ignition on and then connect the multimeter to a ground and then power source. When you turn your ignition off if the power is cut off to your multimeter then it will work for your gauges, and the gauge will only power up when your ignition is turned over. Hope that helps.

I have a multi meter, but since I'm electonically illiterate, I'm not too sure how to use it. I did try to find some power but I must be doing something wrong. The temp guage has 4 wires, grnd, powr, ign, and illumination. If the power wire was hooked up like you said, then why would I need to tap into the ignition to make it shut off? That's what it says in the directions. Thanks for your help!

Just use the fuse box for your main power.

As for the light, you can wire it to the dimmer wiring (ashtray) or just use normal power to have it on with the car.

Thanks for those great pics. That helps me a lot. So if I have pwr, grnd, and illum hooked in, then should I just leave the ign wire out? Or do I need to run pwr to that too so the gauge will work? I'll get some of those connectors at pep boys, thanks.

thats weird my temp gauge only had the sensor line which was automatically plugged into the gauge, and then dips in the radiator fluid. A ground and power source for illumination and operation, you must have one of those fancy smancy ones.

BMac, which gauge do you have?

There should be 4 wires:

1. Wire to the sensor (whatever they call it)
2. Wire to power for the gauge
3. Wire to ground the gauge
4. Wire to light the gauge

Check in the manual that came with the gauge to see which line the sensor runs into. Then you can take care of the other 3.

There are 5 lines:

1 to the sensor in the filler neck.

Then pwr, grnd, illum, and ign.

Defi boost and water temp.

boost only has illum, and grnd.

Yeah, this one is fancier than my previous SPI that was ripped out and stolen at BWI airport. I have everything in place but power for both gauges.
