Driver's side cooling fan died AGAIN

Alright I have no clue what is going on. My car was at the shop and he called me and said my fan pwned itself this morning. He said he smelled electrical, and then the driver's fan started smoking like crazy. This is like the 3rd time I'll be replacing my driver's side cooling fan. I've had used fans every time i replaced it, maybe that's why?

Any ideas on what I can check to prevent this from happening again?

Check fuses, connections, grounds, & wiring, if there's a short then you should find it because it's obviously causing your fans to go out every time.

Another weird issue. Now whenever I turn my key on, no matter what my fan turns on. I don't have A/C on or anything. The driver's side fan is disconnected from the harness. Maybe that would cause the issue?

Hmmm I think the smog guy fiddled with the fan settings. Is there some sort of "always on" setting in the pfc? At any temperature if I turn the ignition on the fans come on at low speed. Turning A/c on makes it kick into high.

As for the driver's side fans dying...no telling. The blade isn't binding up on the shroud or radiator, is it?

The always-on thing sounds like a stuck fan relay to me.

I had this happen several times on my old 93. It was a bad fuse each time.

A bad fuse?

Fuses only go "bad" (aka burn up) when an improper amount of Amperage is drawn through that particular circuit.

So if your fuse was "bad" as you say, then the fan wouldn't work at all. Not burn up, like the OP said.

There have been reports of driver's side fans being destroyed by battery acid dripping on them. Could that be the problem?
