Unhappy Driver door won't open!!!

This is freaking me out! I can't open the door from the inside or outside.

I turned the lock both ways to make sure it wasn't locked, and even used the indoor manual lock, and it still will not open.

Anyone else ever had this happen?

Just take the latch mechanism apart, first take off the outer handle, that will likely show you where the problem is. There are several little rods with keepers in the mechanism, I will bet that one of them has come apart.....it has happened to me.

Drivers Door won't open

By any chance do you have keyless entry ? ? ? ? I may have broken one of the rod keepers. If not then one of the rod keepers broke or came loose any way, usualy it's a keyless entry solinoid that breakes them.

Well, upon further investigation, all the levers seem to be in order. I am really bummed!

Are the lock mechanisims (at the striker) on this car controlled electrically? There is a rather large white box down there that looks suspiciously like an electrical box of some type. Both the cable from the inner handle, and the rod from the outside handle go into this box.

I am beginning to think that the the striker portion of the lock is not disengaging, and that a signal is not being received by it. Can anyone confirm this?

Does anyone know where I can get this document?
1993 RX7 Body Electrical Troubleshooting manual Pt# 1312-10-91L
I have all the service manuals on pdf for it, but not this one.

The white box you see is just a cover. The drivers side is strickly mechanical (the pasenger side is mechanical with a lock motor attached to it) also has the white box cover on it. If you have to replace your lock mechanicals may I suggest a passenger side door lock from a right hand drive. This gives you the abillity to make it electrical as well and add an after market alarm or keyless entry at a later date. Let me know as I sell these unit. Jack

Well, I did fix it, but I can't really tell you how...

What I mean is, I just took the handle off by getting in from the other side. I just kept playing with the levers, then the dang thing finally opened up. I don't know any one thing I did that was different.

I did notice that I locked and unlocked the passenger side from the keyhole, and it armed/disarmed the alarm system.

I wish I could give you a definitive answer as to what fixed it. All the levers were fine, and connected.

Good luck.

sometimes the rods or the cables get stuck. I had a broken cable attached to my unlock switch in the driver side before.

If your car ever does this again, take off the plastci piece behind the door lock cylinder in the interior. Then you'll see two 10mm bolts, then you can take out the exterior panel with the lock cylinder and try to inspect the rods/cables. THen you can maniuplate the rods to unlock and open the door.

The driver side is mechanical but there is also a power door lock mechanism there. It's a bad design IMHO as it can break the cable. Keyless entry probally shouldn't be used.

Good luck.

Danny

After careful inspection of mine, I found out it is the driver's side outside handle. The plastic piece you lift up on broke inside and was not pushing the rod down far enough to open the door.

But thanks for the input guys.

1987 RX-7 door won't open sometimes

It's the passenger door & it mainly happens in the winter time. I just thot it got frozen. But that wasn't it. I dunno what it depends on. Sometimes it opens, but most times not. Not from the inside or outside. The inside lock won't move much, but it still won't open. The lock is from another car so the key won't work. What do u suggest I do to fix this permanently? A whole different latch assembly or what? Why do I have no problems with the driver's door?

I appreciate all replies.

Thank you
