Drastic tune changes from in car.
Is it possible (with the laptop + ecu + program + etc.) to manipulate the tuning of the car from the inside? I would love to be able to have a controllable daily driver, while also being able to have fun when I want to.
If this is possible (yeah i know it sounds like some fast and the furious ****), is there a price range?
Thanks to anyone that knows anything,

Well, I know its entirely possible with something like a lap top or palm pilot...as far as a price range, I haven't seen one specifically for an RX7...but one of the ones I know of is an ECU Tuning / Data Logging Package for DSM's and thats about $650...Its an entire in-car adjustable ECU, you supply the lap top or palm pilot obviously...

Yep I'm on a laptop right now so that's not a problem. And now that i'm thinking about it I guess it'd just be EFI, but seeing as I'm not that knowledgeable about rotaries (let alone cars), I was maybe looking for a point in the right direction.

I share your ignorance (I bet I'm even more ignorant than you), but because of that there is NO way I'd trust myself to adjust a tune on the fly. I'd screw up my engine for sure.

i'd go powerfc + datalogit.
You can hook it up to your computer, have full control over your car. tune fuel, ignition etc. also log everything.
with no experience i wouldn't start changing things (could seriously harm your engine) go to a tuner and get a safe tune.
datalogit $375 (from their website)
powerfc around $900 (ebay)

Toss in a Innovative LC-1 wideband (or similar) with the PFC and datalogit so you can log AFRs, and you should be good to go (if you know what you're doing of course).

Tuning from your car is entirely possible as stated above and many people do it, but it sounds like what you want is a boost controller. If all you want to do is run your car with a little less power on the street and then open it up for the track, all you need to do is tune it (or have it tuned) to the maximum amount of boost you want to run and then turn down the boost when you don't need it. No laptop needed.

IMO:
i'd go with a haltech ECU just b/c of the wideband O2 input that the PFC lacks, which is a great help when tuning in realtime.
also, with the haltech by the push of a button you can change your boost setting to any preset that you have programmed. makes it real easy when you know you're not going to be racing every day and doesn't put added stress on that car having high boost available to you all the time.
