Question DP glows during warmup???

Hey guys,
I have a Pettit DP and noticed that during the warmup period it starts to glow. It eventually subsides after the engine comes up to temp.
It starts at the top and actually works it's way down close to the main cat.
Is it from running so rich during startup that half the fuel is being burned after the combustion takes place as it enteres the exhaust path?

Some thoughts please, 'cause it's kinda freaking me out...

Oh, the car is mostly stock. Intake, dp, cb.

Wait, this is BEFORE any boosting?

Yeah, take that cat off, hold it up and shake it. Things should not be coming out, or else it's probably clogged.

Yes, it's just after startup. Funny thing is that it goes away after a few minutes once the car starts to warm up.
The cat has ~40k on it, and the boost seems fine too, builds really quickly and holds. But either way, I should probably take it of just to make sure.
I've also never observed it after actually driving the car...

Quick question. After I pull the cat off, can I run the car to test if the glowing stops? Not driving it, just starting it up to see if the DP stops glowing. I don't have a mid-pipe handy, so the exhaust would exit right out of the DP. I assume it would be really loud if nothing else.
Thinking about it, the cat seems like the most likely case. I passed emissions a couple months ago, and barely made it on the CO test. I think it was something like 630 permitted, and I got about 620.

yea you can start it up w/o the main cat in place. just dont drive it. also dont keep it on for too long... thing will start to get really hot under the car. just do it quickly to see if you have the same problem. as you said it will be loud. have fun... hey take a sound clip and post it!
