Downpipes

My friend bought a downpipe for his 1986 Nissan 300zx turbo. After he installed the 3" aftermarket downpipe it made his car alot louder. If I installed a 3" aftermarket downpipe on my 1994 Mazda RX-7 would it make it louder?

and what can I do to my car that gives it horsepower but won't make the car any louder cause I live in a "culdesac"

It will make it louder but I doubt it will that much. I haven't installed mine yet. Supposedly you are able to hear the turbos more.

Yes, taking out the pre-cat on your rx7 and installing a downpipe will make it louder. As far as what mods will give you more power without making it louder, I don't really know of any. Downpipe is a very good choice if you want a noticable power increase. Just a downpipe with the stock cat and catback won't be very loud, as gas is still restricted quite a bit. Now add a aftermarket catback and midpipe and it will be damn loud.

Oh, and you should be doing a downpipe for reliability anyway...

If you leave the stock CB muffler on, a DP won't increase noise that much. You won't see as much performance increase as installing a DP with an aftermarket CB, however.

The big increase in noise is when you get rid of the stock main cat for a hi-flow or MP. But again, the performance gains you get by getting rid of the stock main cat are huge (as long as you upgrade your ECU to match).

NO not all! It's a great upgrade for your turbos, and its not loud at all. I've driven ALOT long distance and whatever else, not loud at all, but noticeably louder than stock...meaning, your car sounds better.

yeah, 0110 is right, its when you opt for a hi flow cat and a midpipe along with it all that it gets loud

I could hear the turbos a litte more when I installed mine, and it was a little louder, but not much. Now I couldn't go without hearing the twins, it's like music to my ears

I have a DP and intake and my car is still quieter than most sports cars I have experienced.
