Downpipe questions?
M2 DP
Well, I just ordered the M2 Dp from the RX7store....
Apparently, in another thread it was posted that jason stated that due to cost of production M2 was no longer polishing the dp....I wish I could remember the thread but it can probably be found by searching...
But know that I see where the sensor bunge is I was wondering for those people who have the "newer" version of the M2 pipe....does that new postion really hit the turbo housing or is the fitment, like the M2 original a "no-brainer"......

I bought mine too used for 100 bucks and spent another 100 getting it high temp coated. it was a bitch to install. You will need to buy new mechanical locknuts and gaskets from mazda and new studs. Or replace with bolts. The stock locknuts will not come off easy. Be ready to cut them off with a dremel. Also at the rear the nuts will probably be frozen too. Cut it off with a dremel or torch.

What I find most interesting is that Kaiser46 is in Nice, France and he gets this dp with the weird bung location and bad welds.
Can anyone confirm that his dp in the pic is a legitimate M2 dp? Did they redesign and move the bunge right under the turbo housing?
Do I smell a rat?

FCFDFan,
I have been searching with keyword M2 and downpipe in the 3rd gen section for the last 20 mins....
I know I read the thread somewhere....and I hope to PM the guy with the newer downpipe...
I think the other thread stated that after receiving the M2 downpipe they noticed that it wasnt polished and contacted Jason at the rx7store.....
Jason said that is the way they are shipping them....
I don't mind that it not polished...heck...probably makes visual inspections easier...but one of the reasons I bought the M2 (currently on backorder at the rx7store) was that after reading the forum was that it was the easiest fitment....if the new bunge is welded in a spot that make fitment difficult.....I'm gonna be PISSED

Dude, your in for a roll!!
Making your own down-pipe isn't necessary and you will spend a heck of a lot more on quality bends and raw materials with welding then it will take just to buy one. If I were you I would see if there is anyone around that can bend a tube that large without distorting the metal or making ripples. Not too many can do 3-4 inch tube. That and welding certain materials (like aluminum and stainless steel) requires a special setup and sticks.
One thing that I found is that the true fit is important. You want to get the best bend as far out as you can while still being able to bolt the darn thing in without requiring an act of got to get the bolts in.
I have a bonz that I just put in, was a massive biznitch to get the bolts in and I had to do some grinding to get the holes right for the bolts but it is in and looks/works great. Price isn't that much but it works excellent. I can see how hard it was to put a tube that size in there with the flange alignment just right. There is no room for error on the bend and the flange alignment to the rest of the pipe.
So you might want to save yourself the hassel, get a cheap metal one and heat wrap it at the worst!!
Good luck with whatever you choose.
