yeah once its off replace it with a aftermarket downpipe. check the gasket for damage. replace studs and nuts if damaged during disassembly

you could also replace the o2 sensor. the gaskets usually hold up pretty well unless you damage them trying to remove the precat

get 3" downpipe. the car will spool faster and give you quicker response. don't spend a lot of money. there are good ones out there that are not name brand. Its just a metal pipe!

I agree with 4CN A1R, replace O2 sensor.

i have to say, hats off to you for atempting to take the precat off yourself. most of us just take ours to a shop cause of all the time and pain staking effort that goes into removing it

i did notice a hose about to come off some kinda valve behind the turbos, i couldnt get past the tube going to the midpipe with my hand , but i did push it back on all the way with a long flathead screwdriver.

Wrap the aftermarket pipe with header wrap and/or heat coat it before installation.

Yes. In addition to aiding exhaust flow a little, it dramatically reduces underhood temps. If you've been running the stock pre-cat, it will be like going from the Sahara to the North Pole in terms of temps. Way better for underhood plastics, wiring, vac lines etc.

But it's so fun At least it's easier than doing an FC's precat. When I had my FC I got discouraged with how much of a PITA it was being so I ran around town for a 3 weeks with just the precat on, I felt like I was driving a diesel. Hearing the turbine spool was a joy as well. Then I eventually had time to work on it again and got the precat off. The same happened with the FD except I only ran around for a week like that.

If you have the down pipe off, might as well take the turbos off, get the wastegate ported, then you can have the midpipe.

Porting the wastegate is a simple and effective means of controlling spike. With the downpipe off, you unbolt your turbos and, with the right tools, you can do it yourself. If you wait, your engine or turbos WILL go due to creep, and then you'll be out extra money. So much for dependable and long-lasting horsepower, right? And nevermind it being half your 'Vette; you could spend a lot more if you don't take precautionary measures with the rotary.
