Downpipe Install Pictures
Anyone have more detailed instructions, complete with pics?
I've removed all but 2 intake hoses, but still am relatively clueless identifying the ABS heat shield and the precat heat shield.
I want that puppy off...
any help would be greatly appreciated

ABS heat shield is held down by two simple bolts. Very easy, they're right on top near the metal lines.
Pre-cat shield is held down by........... I think 4 bolts, not as easy.
BEST thing to do is use ALOT of PB, it's an incredibly strong degreaser type spray thingy, you can find at NAPA or um.... well that's the only place I know of, but I guess WD-40 would work, let it soak and becareful with the studs/bolts.

does the precat shield have a hose going into it?
and is it closer to the front (compared to the ABS shield)
Is the ABS shield in the left corner close to the firewall?

Eric, what directions are you working from now?
If you are just adding a downpipe then you don't have to remove any of the upper intake hoses.
All the work is done from the bottom and I don't think I have ever seen any heat shielding removed.
Unless you have just the right size ratchet and extension it is incredibly hard to get in there to do the job. It can be done with nearly any wrench, but it is 400% easier once you have done it once and if you have "the wrench" that fits.
What do you have off at this point?

i was reading the scuder directions...
they say to take off the intake hoses, the abs heat shield and the precat heat shield...
you mean all this can be dne from the bottom without removing a thing?
i just have the hoses off..with the exception of the lower 3" one on the air box and one smaller one on the air box that runs into a metal shield ? perhaps the heatshield?

Trust me, taking off the hoses on top and heat shields will make your work 5000% easier since you'll have much more room to work in.
The precat shield doesn't have any hoses attatched. The only thing to detatch and reattatch is the O2 sensor......

Is this the ABS heat shield you guys are referring to?
I have never removed that when installing a downpipe.
Maybe those instructions say to work from the top but I have always done all of it from the bottom. The downpipe bolts, the O2 sensor.
They are very hard to get off though. I have always soaked those for at least 24 hours in penetrating oil.

If you can identify the turbo manifold and the big ugly thing that comes off it, take off everything you think you might need to get that pipe off. Better yet, follow it from your main cat up, and when you see something that looks like it can come off, unbolt it.
